SR1911CMD-LW .45 ACP

SN 672-46XYZ was purchased over the counter at a LGS, from the
consignment counter. It showed no sign of firing except slight brass marks on the
breech face. On disassembly, I first noticed that the slide stop notch does not go
entirely through the slide wall. The takedown notch is a slight crescent visible on
the bottom of the slide, displaced about 7/8" to the rear of the lock notch.
The thumb safety is extended forward and outward. Since this piece
is intended for CCW use, I intend to use a safety that does not protrude so much.
It's action is firm and snappy, without requiring excess effort.
The bump on the grip safety is not troublesome, which surprised me
a little. The checkering on the mainspring housing is just this side of too sharp,
in my estimation. This might be replaced with an arched MS housing, depending
on later results.
Checking the extractor tension revealed that there was none. The
factory item was replaced with an Ed Brown Hardcore extractor, after which
the tension was satisfactory.
The recoil spring plug lacks a retaing tab for the spring. This is an
easy direct replacement.
The base pad on the 8 round factory magazine is big and wide, to the
point of being odd. It was later revealed that the 8th round will not be loaded.

RANGE RESULTS

Ruger factory mag:
I fired 50 rounds of Winchester white box .45ACP 230 grain ball.
Shots fired resting over the range bag clustered roughly 2" high at 18 yards.
This was followed by 25 rounds of Hornady Critical Duty. I bought
all that the local big box sporting goods store had-1 box. This was noticably more
frisky than the WWB, as would be expected from a +P loading.
Then, 14 shots of a handload consisting of a 230 cast round nose
bullet, grease lubed, charged with 4.0 grains of Clays for about 793 FPS.

G.I. magazine, of unknown provenance:
Balance of the handload, 36 rounds.

Total round fired-125
Failures to feed- none
Failures to fire- none
Failures to extract-none
Failures to eject-none

It has been my custom to close the slide using the slide lock. Doing
this, I did notice a sort of double bump during the first round feeding. No stoppages
occurred, as noted above. I noticed right away that the grooved trigger is a bit
bothersome due to the sharpness of the grooving.
