I gave my dad a Super redhawk in 454 for fathers day. (yea I know good son) but i didnt get him a scope or mounts. He getting older and the eyesight aint what it used to be. Anyone got a good combo or just a good mount to start with? What we eventually want to the be is he heavy hunting pistol.

Well it would depend on the optic used to what you will need to get him. A scope is accurate but control in the field can cause lots of issues. A dot or reflex is typicaly more than accurate enought out to 100 yards and you can have the dot anywhere with in the lense and that is where the bullet will impact. For a standrad 1" or 30mm tube type optic a set of ruger rings will bolt right on to the SRH and weigand makes a adaptor that hooks to the revolvers ring mounts locations and allows a weavertype or rings rings to be used that come on most reflex or dots. For a base look here-

Most all quality dots and refles sights can with stand heavy recoil today.

I have 2 buddies useing the wiegand base for a pair a reflex sights on there SRH's

I have a wiegand base for burris 135 speed dot on my dw 44 mag. Good red dot.

I have used red dots for 26 years on hunting handguns. Also had a 308 pistol with a 2-6 scope. For a 100 yards and under optics it would allways be a some brand of dot or reflex now. Dot size from 1" with a circle to a 3" dot will do well out to 100 yards My buddies are skilled hunters but new to handguns and 3 to 4" 100 yard groups where shot first time at the bench.
