Has anyone pulled the trigger on one of these birdshead cuties?

I always loved the old Colt Sheriffs' model, and this runs an easier cartridge for me.

I've often thought about ordering one of the infrequent runs made in this configuration.

Being a longtime Ruger revolver owner/shooter, I sort of wish they were made on the original Vaquero frame, because I still have some stout "Ruger-Only" .45 Colt handloads left over, made for my older Blackhawk Convertible .45 Colt/ACP.

I suppose I could "make do" by restricting myself to the lower power standard .45 Colt fodder, though.

Something about the Bird's Head grip and a stubby Sheriff's Model has always appealed to me. ;)

If I came across one at a decent (not scalped) price, it wouldn't be hard to talk myself into picking it up. :)

Then, of course, I'd have to get a "historic" holster suited to the littlest of the big bore SA "snubs". ;)

I bought a stainless one from the first run simply because it was so attractive. It's accurate, and the birdshead grip fits my small hands well.

I have one in stainless as well, I carry it in a cross draw tanker type holster. It seems really well balanced to me, and it shoots well.

I like the concept of the Ruger's birdshead grip just that I find the shape of their version to be somewhat wide and feels awkward in my hand. I prefer the design of the Cimarron Thunderer model that Uberti makes for them.

If they had put the standard XR3 grip frame on it, I'd probably have to have one. I've also got an Old Model .357 Blackhawk that I've been wanting to convert to a short barreled .45ACP.
