U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce that the Mark IV and Ruger American Pistol each received a “Golden Bullseye Award” from the National Rifle Association's American Rifleman magazine. These pistols were named 2018 American Rifleman “Handgun of the Year” and “Women's Innovation Product of the Year,” respectively.

Ruger has really pulled ahead of most of thr pack as of late and have released some great new offerings.

However, this confuses me a bit. Firstly, the American pistol has been out for 2 years already. Secondly, it hasn’t been very popular or even necessarily well received. Thirdly, what makes the American pistol a “women’s innovation product”?

The U-Tube negative reviews of the RAP9 when first introduced and to some extent the RAP45 were BS. Negativity draws viewership, which generates income for the U-Tube reviewer. The RAP series is on par with my examples of the S&W-MP-Gen1 and Glock Gen3. The RAP9 that I have, seven thousand plus rounds with out failure to feed - chamber and fire. I'm not new to handguns started out at Parris Island in the summer of 1964 firing the 1911A1 for familiarization. I've owned most of the major brands Colt, SIG, S&W, Walther and now Ruger.

So two remarkably unremarkable pistols that have either been plagued with recalls or general disinterest won some awards from an organization that Ruger donates a lot of money too? Say it ain't so.

It's almost as though those faltering handguns that Ruger banked a lot on succeeding are being propped up somehow.

Since you know so much tell me what the recalls were? Plagued with recalls, then list them! If you can't list all the so called recalls then you lack credibility. Both my RAP9 &45 were registered with Ruger thus I would have been informed if there were problematic issues addressed with recalls.

This is right up there with Car & Driver's Car of the Year Award and the Oscars and Grammys in terms of awards I don't care about at all.

That's correct but to the best of my knowledge no recalls on the RAP series which I addressed in my reply to the subject!
I said "either been plagued with recalls or general disinterest" and was referring to the recall of the Mark IV and the general disinterest among the gun community with the RAP's. To my knowledge, the RAP has never had a recall on it and I didn't insinuate it did.

Plagued with recalls? The Mark IV has had ONE recall (same number of recalls the Sig P320 has had). The RAP series of pistols has had no recalls. I don't own a Mark IV, but the Mark III is probably the best shooting, most accurate 22LR pistols out there. The RAP9 and RAP45 is on par with most of the other polymer framed, striker fired pistols made today.

Glock should always be the obvious choice...what is the NRA thinking! Don't they realize there's only one brand?

For some year in the late 80's. :)

All the "new" Glocks make me think of all the "new, improved!" laundry detergent brands -- solid product with dubious improvements being touted.

I give Ruger props for instantly owning up to a mistake and recalling and fixing the problem. They even put a giant notice on the front page of their web site. There are companies out there that hide their products defects.

The Mark IV is sweet and if you ever took down earlier mark pistols you will appreciate what great upgrade the IV is. There is a lot to love about this pistol, and guns like this bring a lot of people into shooting. I'm glad it got an award.
