Hey guys, I was talking to my dad this weekend, and he was telling me about his first revolver. He was saying it was a Security Six...but he was also saying it was a single action. Described it as "the old western look with a loading gate and plow type grip" I asked him if it was a Blackhawk, he said it definitely wasn't a Blackhawk. So, this would have been in the late 60's or early 70's, did Ruger ever have a single Six in 357 mag? My google-fu isnt turning up and ruger single actions other than the Blackhawk that would have been available in 357 at that time. What was the first revolver Ruger had in 357?

The Security/Service/Speed Six was Ruger's first double action revolver. It was introduced in 1972.

The first pistol that I purchased was a NIB 4" blued .357mag Ruger Security Six, s/n: 15033573, in the Spring of 1973 shortly after I turned 21. :)

Several years later, a friend that I had introduced to firearms liked it so much that I sold it to him for what I had paid for it; $125.

That's what I figured, had to be a Blackhawk...they didn't introduced the Vaquero until the 90's

I just bought my first revolver, 4" Security Six. Although, $125 in '73...adjusted for inflation...you did pretty good. That would be about $700 today

My first .357 was a 4" Model 28 Highway Patrolman. Bought it in '79 with a Bianchi 5b holster, two boxes of ammo, and a Pachmayr grip for $280. I found out it was expensive (for me) to feed and foolishly traded it off after a couple years for a Ruger Single Six in SS. I did learn a lot about shooting and honed my revolver skills with that 22 though. So it wasn't a totally bad trade off.

It was a Blackhawk for sure.

Ruger’s first firearm was a Standard 22 auto

I bought my 99% blued .357 Service-Six for $185 on my 21st B-Day in 1997. I left campus about noon, drove to the DL office, and still got to the LGS before closing. The gun still sits in my bedroom "ready use" gun cabinet to this day- 158 gr JSPs nearby.

My first .357 was a Colt Trooper Mk.III. The one after that was a Security Six.
