It sounds like he was not at all an informed or qualified or a 'good' Safety Instructor to even be posturing as one.

As we all know, no 'unloaded' Gun should ever be pointed at one's own self, or anyone else, let alone, pointing it AND pulling it's Trigger as a way of showing it is 'unloaded'.

I do not see where the 'Gun Safety Instruction' part ever entered into this fellow's demonstration at all...

A sad and sorry tale of how idiocy and 'safety' may in fact be mutually exclusive.

Sad indeed.

The Four Rules just don't get through to some folks, I guess.

I'm a firm believer in "show clear" protocols, such as are observed in the better gun stores, when handling guns.

This includes picking one up to clean it, "show it off", examine it at a gun store, etc.

The "show clear" should be part of safety training, IMO, not just The Four Rules.

There are only so many ways to say it.

This unfortunate individual made a huge mistake and died for it. Perhaps he thought he could shock those watching by such an overt demonstration of unsafe firearms handling. We'll never know, and it's probably unproductive to guess. Certainly, his method of instruction is not one to be imitated or emulated by anyone.

Let's just let it rest there.

Johnny
