Rumor Control: Obama Plans Ammo Tax of 500%

I was in Scheel's on Sunday buying a Colt, and the manager said they had sold 20K worth of ammo on Saturday because in Obama's speech to Congress last week he said he would tax ammo 500%. They also sold every one of their AR's.

I hadn't heard of word of the ammo tax before. Did Obama say this explicity?

It depends who you ask.
Gun store owners like it because they sell all the ammo they can get ahold of at an inflated price.

He didn't say anything about guns and/or ammo.

The speech discussed only the economy, healthcare and education.

Well good, 'cause I would think that would be the fastest way to assure himself only one term. I'm sure he's going after AR's, maybe if he wins a second term, but an ammo tax right out of the gate?

There's no legal issue to discuss here.

And AFAIK, he has made no mentions of any tax increase on ammo, beyond the other taxes he is proposing. He certainly made no mention of it in his address to Congress.
