For those of you who are not HKPRO regulars, like I, Skunk, SteyrAUG, and others, there's a rumor that HK intends to establish a production facility of some sort here in the US.

There is also a rumor that HK will produce a sort of hybrid AR upper that uses a G36 style gas system (ie long stroke piston).

Here's the link to the HKPRO thread:

If true, this is very exciting.

It would be nice if they had an "employee of the week" job that any of us can apply for a week's employment at measley wages. The benefit? Employee discount. Just enough to pay for your cost of the rifle. I'd do it and brag how I was a factory worker.

Since the new ownership has just taken over I doubt that any such decision has been made. But one benefit would be not having to deal with exchange rates. In very recent months the exchange rate has substantially changed, not in our favor. A conversation with a friend who imports german tooling demonstrated the he's really hurting because of this. If HK ever makes guns here I hope they make sure to maintain top quality.

Is it time to start collecting the German made guns since we all know the guns made in the US will be of inferior quality :neener::neener:

A major reason in favor of a US plant is the AW sunset next year. If it does go away, H&K can manufacture all of the rifles that are currently banned and classified as non-sporting (cannot import anyway).

10-ring, let's stock up on NIB P7s and sell them for beaucoup bucks when the time comes!!! And pay for our M4s!!

OH YEAH YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ONE NEENER NEENER!!!!! :D :D :D

***drool!!!***

Sounds like urban legend to me! If HK does open a plant here watch it be for LE and government sales only!:banghead:

Unfortunately any SHOT Show reports prior to 2000 have been lost, but in 1998 or 1999 I spoke with H&K and they were beginning plans to open a plant here. Their hope was even to build a qualifying American HK91 and HK93 since they would be allowed the pistol grip. Of course this was before the G36 guns were being sold, but no reason they couldn't do that with the more modern firearms as well and use that M16 mag conversion as well.
