is out there.

For some time now, I have heard rumors that Gary Brommeland of http://brommelandgunleather.com is introducing a horse hide owb rig. Well, thanks to some exhausting research, endless emails, good detective work, and heavy-handed interrogation, I finally got 'ole shifty' to cave. Yes, indeed, he is going to produce an owb holster. And out of racehorse hide, so you know its fast. Ok, I made that part up. But the holster is fast. I was given the opportunity to test out the new holster, and personally, I loved it. It carried the gun well into the body. I wore it in the same location as I do my Max Con V, and it was very easy to conceal w a light coat or the old 'phototerrorist vest'. Most others will wear it just behind the point of the hip. It is pretty much a straight drop holster. It was also easy, easy easy to draw from. The holster presented a full firing grip and released the pistol readily. But when used in conjuction w a good carry belt, (I used one of Gary's), the retention is more than adequet w/out the use of straps, tension screws, magnets, matter/anti matter polarity generators and such. I would have loved to have posted a pic, but, being as this was a r&d job, Gary didnt want any pix till he could post the finnished product. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a hard use, concealment owb holster, give Brommeland a quick call. But get in line :D .

This isn't board policy, but it's my personal feeling that if your first post is to hock someone's wares, it should go in the "for sale" area. This area is for productive members to have discussion about products, not thinly veiled ads.

TechBrute:

Sorry to have gotten off on the wrong foot w you, (or anyone else sharing TechBrutes feelings). I just didnt think the forum needed me to start off w the standard "hi, I'm new here and just wanted to tell you guys what a great forum you have". Dude, judging by the membership and activity, you know you have a great forum. But, let me reassure you, I do appreciate the knowlege of the 'productive members'. This forum has provided some excellent reading. I also appreciate the candidness of the members.

If it seems I am 'hawking' someone's wears, let me clarify. I like Gary's work. I also seemed to have read just a few posts in this forum where people gave a product review as best they could. I attempted to do the same, and add a little humor. I'm not a sales rep, nor do I make any money off of the sale of Gary's holsters. I do judge them to be a very good product. And although you have already deemed me unproductive, I have been carrying concealed firearms both in the security of a large ranching company and as personal choice for 10+ years. Now, to be very honest, I am not a snake eating, ice water in my veins, steely eyed, killer. I may not have the experience you do, but I do have some experience carrying a firearm, and have tried quite a few holsters. Got the old 'holster box' as most do. And once again, I like Brommeland's work and recomment it highly. Not for my own gain, but in the hopes that others who are looking for good concealment gear might benefit from my experience w the product in question.

Lastly, Gary is my friend. But that was well after using his products. He certainly does not need me to sell gear. He was doing just fine I'm sure b4 I came along, and will continue to thrive after I've purchased my last holster or belt. I am proud to call Gary my friend. Somewhere along the line, I'd like to consider you my friend. Most people on this forum are folks who'm I'd probably like to have as friends. Some differences cant be worked out-thats life. Perhaps our differences can be. But, let me assure you, I stand by my review of this holster. If you are sure you dont need one or want one, dont get one. My post was simply for those who might be looking.

Groovy, see, this is why I like these sites. They are made up of grown men. Not argumentative children.

Dont get me wrong, grown men can logically argue a point. But only children argue for arguements sake. On reflection T'Brute, I did kinda jump in feet first. My bad. You were kind enought to accept my apology, and now we can move on. By the way, what holster ya wearing? ;)

Dan

Most of my stuff is Kydex from Comptac, Sidearmor, and Blade-tech. I have some leather from Milt Sparks and Jim Burke (Paris, TX) that I'm pretty fond of. Everything else has found it's way into the aforementioned holster box. A recent post brought Gary's work to my attention, and I'm always in the market for a good holster.

What pistol/revolver are you totin'?
Do you prefer iwb, owb?
How 'concealed' do you need to be, or more precisely, what is your wardrobe?

I'm not asking as tho you dont know what youre doing, but I use another of Gary's holster almost exclusively. Its iwb. IF you'd like to know my opinion/review (I'll keep it brief), let me know. If not, no prob.

Tech ... your last post reminded me .... someone said, around last fall that Jim Burke had died ... is this in fact true. And if so .. do you know if anyone is carrying on his work or closing it all down.

I was visiting the Market hall Gunshow in Dallas last June and bought a beaut small hi-ride pancake from him .. my SP-101 lives there often very happily. I would like to get another if possible - it is so good.

Met the guy on his table ... very imposing character and sad if he is gone . he was outa paris IIRC.

slydel0kt ... welcome here .... :) I'll forgive your enthusiasm!!:p :D

My casual EDC is a G23 IWB kydex (different styles for different type outfits) backed up with a G27 when possible. When dressing in a suit is required, the leather OWB holsters and the Kimber Pro-Carry come out of the safe, backed up by a S&W 60. This might sound cheesy, but I alternate leather holsters so that the leather matches my belt and shoes. I've always had the unsubstantiated opinion that matching leather hides better in case of unintentional flash.

I own and shoot a lot of pistols, but those 4 get shot every time I go to the range.

This is, unfortunately, the truth. Jim's step-son is carrying on the business, although the last time I talked with him (October or November), was only 2 months after Jim passed, and he wasn't too sure of his future.

I bought my first of 3 Burkes back in 94. I also gave 4 of them (custom embellished by Jim) to my groomsmen.

Slyde, contrary to what my original post might have indicated, I'm always interested in holster reviews. I literally have bought, sold, and throw away thousands of dollars in holsters. I used to think that I needed at least one holster for every pistol I had. Later I learned the value of carrying only a few pistols. Easier to train with, and cheaper to holster. :D

P95Carry: Thanks, Bro- I'm gonna like it here!:D

TechBrute: Agree w the matching leather stuff. Like I said, I use Gary's MaxConV, dress belt, and mag/flash. All in black. For me, black works 'cause I dont dress up much. Pretty much jeans, polo shirts and RRvest or denim overshirt. Eddie Bauer cargos or slacks w matching sport coat in dark colors for those rare dress occasions (yes, Sundays and funerals I can be mistaken for a metrosexual).

I was fortunate to find Gary when my wife left her job, and a large chunk of our income was no more. In an effort to pay off the credit cards, I sold the guns and gear I wasnt using. Settled on keeping two 5" kimbers, but needed leather to conceal but hold up to my training. Placed a call to Gary after checking out his sight and wound up w carry gear that suites virtually all of my needs.

Thx Tech ... I was afraid you'd confirm that ... very sad.

Unfortunately, the one business card I kept of Jim's I gave away to a guy round here .... forget who!!! If you have the business adress/phone # etc .. be glad to keep a note of it and maybe check out again and see if things are operational or not.

Strange eh .... get the one holster out of the famous boxfull, that shines above all ... and the maker passes on ... sad all round.

Chris,

I would be glad to get his info next time I see him. I've always contacted him at Market Hall, so I don't know if I've ever had his card. I'll PM it to you when I get it. Unfortunately, I'm think the next Market Hall show is in March. I think there's a show in Mesquite that he's been at, but not regularly, in Feb. If he's there I'll pass the info along.

Sorry, indeed to hear of the passing of you friend, Brute.

Holsters for groomsmen, that is classy! My guys just had thier pistols stuffed in their cumberbuns. Barbarians

Brute, check out Gary's site, and for your kimber, take a look at the Max Con V. I have been thrilled w it. If you do a LOT of range work (drawing and holstering), Gary also has the Max Con VI, same as V, w steel reinforced mouth. I'm gonna get one of those, soon.

Dan

ok here is my .02 cents....RJ Hedley told me once that "you should never praise your own products...if they are worth a d*** then your customers will praise them for you...

This seems to be the case with slydel0kt..If ya dig tha guys stuff?? then praise away!! and welcome to the board!

I didnt know of Jim Burkes passing until the other day...I wish his family the best and I hope his kid can carry on the family business.

Thanks, azreal.

Looks like you've got quite a handle on this whole holster thing, judging by your site.

Yes, I am quite pleased w Gary's work. I have never worn a 1911 (iw/ow) w the level of comfort provided by the Max Con V. And as my review went, his horse hide owb is awfully slick. I tend to get very vocal about things I truly believe in, but Brute had a point. Proper ediquette would dictate that I take a moment to introduce myself and state my reasons for the post. I will take more care to adhere to protocol in the future, rather than turn someone off to a great product.

Dan

I certainly didn't want to run anyone off, but there have been issues of vendors creating a profile just to give themselves praise on discussion boards. This doesn't appear to be the case in this instance. :D

Please limit my beatings, as I'm only trying to keep the forum productive and not a flea market.

'Brute:
not a prob, dude. I didnt follow precedented proceedure. That's all on me. As I'd previously stated, one of the things that drew me to this site is the candor with which folks here can speak.

Dan

Brommeland.........Hmmmmm:scrutiny: That sounds familiar to me for some reason.........

Ill second the motion for Garys handywork. Hes not only a top notch holster maker, he shoots straight with you and is a PITA when he has to be to. I KNOW! :D

Glad you like his leather......he's been doing it for a while now and it shows in his work.....world class stuff.

Shoot well...........

TechBrute,

Just for the record, I am resistered here myself. I do not have any "alter egos" pitching my product.

I would agree that SlydelOkt is a rather enthusiastic individual, however. :D
