Anybody hear Rush detailing the scandle? Millions of people who would otherwise not be exposed to the facts are now privy to the facts of how the BATF attempted to undermine the 2A. No matter your opinion of Rush and his politics he deserves kudos for exposing this domestic enemy of the Constitution.

Would you mind sharing some details of what you're talking about for those of us who didn't hear this? What's the policy? What did he expose about it?

Quick synopsis from my understanding of it...

The BATFE had agents instruct gun dealers to allow straw purchases(of at least 2,000 guns) that they would have otherwise turned away so that the BATFE agents could try and trace the guns to Mexican organized crime. One of those guns ended up killing a Border Patrol agent(Brian Terry) and the rest have accounted for some 200+ murders in Mexico. Another of the F&F guns was used to murder ICE agent Jaime Zapata.

Apparently the BATFE agents originally intended to apprehend the straw purchasers at the border but were instructed by superiors to let them pass by.

After a while someone with a brain in the BATFE decided to blow the whistle and some congressional hearings took place, this is what they found...

the ATF knowingly allowed as many as 2,500 firearms to be sold illegally to known or suspected straw purchasers. One of those purchasers accounted for over 700 illegal guns.

the ATF ordered its agents working the program not to arrest illegal gun buyers or to interdict thousands of guns that were allowed to "walk" into criminal hands.

Senior ATF officials in Washington were regularly briefed on the operation and approved of the tactics employed.

the ATF agents who opposed the operation and who raised objections were told to "get with the program" and threatened with job retaliation if they continued their opposition.

After those hearings took place the three supervisors of Operation Fast and Furious(William G. McMahon, William D. Newell and David Voth) were promoted by the BATFE.

He's just now getting around to it?(Sorry, not a fan)

I woulda thought he'd have been all over this one from the start. A pretty large scale scandal that goes as high up as somebody who reports directly to The Chosen One seems like it's right up his alley.

If I had to guess I would say Rush is probably anti-gun himself. I could always be wrong, but he strikes me as fairly ignorant in a lot of areas.

I could always be wrong...
Correct, you are in fact wrong.

He's been discussing this for a long while now. Probably as long as it has been public.

ps:
You should have read TexasRifleman's post about Rush-bashing. It is off topic here. If you had acquired more information, you could have prevented the inaccuracies in your post.

Hardly....he's very pro gun. Was featured speaker at the NRA National Convention some years ago and went into lengthy detail about his first duck hunt once on his show.

Didn't the ATF at one point escort some guns south?

Either way, American law enforcement agents and management participated in multiple felonies.

Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer.

I don't know if it's possible to overblow Fast and Furious, IMO this is far more serious than Watergate. It's not known if the cover-up goes all the way to the President, but the operation itself was far more damaging than a B&E, these guns have been involved in apparently dozens or more murders in Mexico. I was at first extremely skeptical that the whole thing was done to influence policy debate in the U.S., but if this WAS a "legitimate" law enforcement operation then we have some people in the government that just aren't real smart; the only way this could end was badly. Now I wonder.

I see it as 50/50... at least he's getting the word out, even if some people do not like him...

I think we can all agree on the fact that we need more media outlets covering this.

What are the chances we can parlay this into some kind of meaningful oversight of the BATFE?

right - we, as the people, can't even get oversight on the WH, the solar company scandal/bribe, Big Sis and her handling of airports and on and on and on - you really expecting yet ANOTHER screw up by this administration to be admitted to? REALLY?

The BS is on both sides of the aisle, but this group has gone above and beyond dereliction of duty, malfeasance of office, and violating their oaths to the Constitution - and we let them

And this is not an example of current gun laws being insufficient and needing new, stricter ones. The system was manipulated and circumvented to allow these purchases to happen.

Isn't this topic itself old news? Wonder why they're just now commenting on it. The smuggling into Mexico was exposed quite a while back, wasn't it? I wrote a paper on it for school in June...

Slim to none. Grassley and Issa are getting very little assistance from congress critters of their own party. It's been decades since congress has cracked down on a federal agency. The two political partys will not seriously disturb the status quo.

CBS originally covered the story back in FEBRUARY and it has been under discussion for quite a while.

The only thing new today is that Rush seemed to wake up to something that CBS broke months ago and on the 21st presented taped conversations from Lone Wolf owner Andre Howard with ATF agent Hope Macallister who were involved directly.

I'm surprised that anyone is just now getting around to hearing about it.

Agreed.

Rush is indeed a wind bag, but F&F is one of the worst things the .gov has done in a very long time. This is in fact one of the few occasions where wind bags are warranted.
