I think the verdict suitably separated registration from ownership, stating that both are reasonable but one cannot hinge on the other.
A solid case could be made that sufficient registration, comparable to Militia Act 1792, is achieved with the Selective Service program: the feds know I'm a militia member per their definition, and know how to contact me (and coincidentally know I'm suitably armed with an NFA AR15 SBR), so further restrictions would be suspect.
