I have a friend who wants to sell his .380acp makarov.

On the slide it says "Made in Russia, By IMEZ" on one side and "K.B.I. ING.HBG.PA." on the other. The word "Baikal" is penciled on slide and embossed on the grip.

Bore is bright, finish is 95%+, no rust or pitting. we've fired 100 or so rounds through it with no problems. It comes with holster and 2 mags.

Ballpark asking price?

Well, it's probably not what you want to hear .. but your friend's mak isn't worth very much. You (or he) might have thought so considering the $750-$800 price range on some russian maks, but those are non-import guns. The "K.B.I. ING.HBG.PA" marking on his gun refers to The KBI Importer of Harrisburg, PA. There is an "IMEZ" in .32acp currently listed on gunsarerica that is NIB and is being sold for $125. I don't have a blue book value for you, but I would say somewhere between $150 and $300 (probably on the lower end of that estimate). There are some factors that could affect the price, some even by a great deal.
You can learn a little more by checking out this link to makarov.com's Mak Faq here for a more specific inquiry.

i was expecting somewhere inbetween 150 and 200.

after reviewing your link, i will probably recomend he ask 225

It sounds like you have a commercial Russian IJ70-17 of some variety.

It has the adjustable rear sight, correct? How many rounds fit in the magazine?

It it holds 10 rounds then its a Hi-Cap and is worth a little bit more. If it holds 8 then its just the regular .380, which might be worth a little more than the 9x18 version.

There appears to be an identical pistol on Guns America for $295, but I dont think he sold it for that much.

I seen a pair of these sell for $300 (for the pair) at the last Texarkana gun show.

I'd say you could most likely get $200 for that pistol in the stated condition, and if you posted it lower than that (for say $150-175), it would be snatched up quick.

Unless you need a buyer NOW, I;d say $200 at least, and it would sell on one of the boards.

It sounds like a low cap because they were the ones that had "Baikal" on the grip, not the high caps.

The Mak most certainly is not a throw away gun. The Russian's praised it highly as it was issued to police and military of all ranks.

People can always express their opinions

But that doesn't mean you should pay attention to them

The Soviet Military Makarov and the East German Makarovs are NOT
throw away guns

Anybody wanting to throw away a Makarov (East German or Russian military) can throw it my way and I'll even pay the postage. :D

These are VERY tough guns and should last a LONG time with the care any fine machine deserves. Mine are already at least 40 years old and function flawlessly. I hope to live long enough to have grandchildren who grow up interested in guns so I can give my Maks to them. Meanwhile, I carry one or another of my Maks, concealed, every day.

What you have is a Russian IJ70-17. This is a commercial verion of the Makarov imported in the early to mid- 1990s.

If it i 8-round, then it is worth around $200.
If you have original box, papers and accessories, it is worth abot $225 - $250.

It it is the hi=cp version, add about $50.

It is the Russian Milsurps (not the commercial Makarovs) that are C&R eligible and worth a whole lot more.
