Hi all,
My 51 Navy had some bad spots on the factory blue job so I thought I'd try my luck at slow rust bluing. This was my first go at this but I think it looks pretty good, what do y'all think? Aww, I forgot to do the wedge!:banghead:

I like the look. I antiqued a few of my revolvers using Birchwood Casey's Plum Brown barrel finish. Is that what you used; how did you do it?

Thanks J-Bar!
I used Dixie instant Antique Browning Solution. It's real easy to use,the first thing is to degrease the metal and apply the solution. I let it rust up for about an hr. then reapplied to get the spots I missed.Let it rust up for about another five then boiled it for 20 min.,removed and let dry, carded off the loose rust and repeated 5 more times.
The additional applications I only let it rust for 1 hr. then boiled for 20 min.

I was wondering about how it was done. I do the same process but with express bluing. Given a high gloss polish, you can get a very nice dark blue with express blue.

I reassembled a percussion gun today that had its tang express blued last week. It sure stands out now (shinier than the barrel) and the owner is very happy.
