Rust in bore = ruined rifle?

Shooters Choice is an Excellent bore cleaner. If you want to speed things up a little, try some JB's Bore paste. Follow directions and be aware the patches with JB's on them will always come out black.

I gave up on Sweet's. Went gang busters at first then it seemed to stop working on the last of the copper. I also went away from using a brush for the most part. The brushes I do have are the brass ones where everything is brass, right down to the twisted wire.

Before any one jumps up and down about JB's hurting the bore, Krieger recommends using it once in awhile in their barrels on their web site.

It's not too difficult to recrown a barrel. What I'm wondering though, is how humidity alone pitted a barrel in two days. Just how bad was the humidity, or could there be something else corrosive involved?

nice setup, raven. you had us all going just so you could brag about your 1/2 inch group at 100 yards..

yeah, yeah, i know what's up... bragger! =P

Apparenly there was no pitting (or just very mild pitting) and just mild rust. I must have mistook discoloration for pitting. Carbon attracts water. There are imperfections in the crown but I assume they were just there, and that it isn't enough to harm accuracy.

I'm really not trying to brag here. I'm just glad nothing appears to be wrong.
