I wouldn't hold it against anyone who was skeptical of the claim that a stainless steel pot cleaner was one of the most effective and scratch-free rust removal tools there was.

I have tried everything to remove rust, with varying degrees of success. Before this, the best thing I had found had been 0000 steel wool and white scotchbrite, but I had noticed that it is very hard to remove rust without dulling the gun's finish with those. A few years ago, my mentor showed me this trick and I have been using it ever since with tremendous success. It's not perfect, but it's the best I've found.

Here is a breakdown of the process.

I would be skeptical without the pics.

I have used 0000 for various removals for many years. Next week I will try it your way. If only I can find some rust:rolleyes:.

I've got an old Stevens shotgun pump barrelled action that has been rusting for 20 years - I'll give it a whirl with the scrubber and see what happens. Looks impressive!

I'll have to admit, that looks pretty nice. I wonder if a copper brush and a parts cleaner tank would do the same effect? I am beginning to suspect that the flat ribbons of the potscrubber acts to "slice" the rust away, instead of digging deep into the finish. These potscrubbers are definitely on my supply list now!

That looks good.

I use the electrolysis process with lye and a battery charger, it cleans out rust to the bottom of the pits/pores.

Used to use muratic acid (out doors), it dissolves rust and blueing fast with no damage to steel if it's not left in the acid too long. I cut the acid 50/50 with water to reduce the fumes but quit because the vapor still caused corrosion to any metal it condensed on.

pot scrubbers

Thanks.....I'm still kinda goosey about the stainless STEEL. They must be softer steel than the gun...right? Have you used the copper pot scrubbers? Nice website BTW.
