Hi guys,

I'm really concerned about having a blued handgun down here - rains over 12 feet a year and is 85% humidity plus and you can fry an egg on your forehead.

Someone suggested Johnson's Paste Wax (JPW) and Ezzox, but didn't give any details on how it is applied and where it is applied. Do you apply it to the inside of the barrel? Do you apply it under the grip panels? Etc.

Let's hear it.
 
Ive used Eezox for a couple of years now on guns, knives, tools, and anything else that rusts, and with good results. Even guns and tools in a damp basement have yet to show rust once treated, even after a year or more.

After I clean my guns, I just soak a couple of patches, run one down the bore, then wipe the rest of the gun down. Let them sit a little while, then dry patch the bore, and wipe the excess off everything else. Dont load the gun up with it and leave it on there, you need to wipe the excess off.

If you can remove the grips, I would do so, and wipe that portion of the gun down too.

While it does work great, if youre carrying the gun all day outdoors in that climate, especially if its in a leather holster, Id probably still wipe it down daily.

Its not hard to get, but it is a little pricey compared to some of the others. But for how well it works, its well worth the little extra.

I just wipe mine down with a Winchester or Birchwood Casey cloth when I put it away.
As far as I know rust is just something you'll have. I don't mind it really as long as it's on the finish to a degree and doesn't rot the mechanical parts. A quick spot of cold blue and off I go.
 
I have started using Johnson's Paste Wax within the last few months. Working great so far on blued revolvers.

Apply it like the directions say, pretty much like most other waxes. Apply, let dry, buff to sheen.

I do the entire exterior and underneath the grips. It's fast and effective, and it has a bonus side effect of not attracting dust or lint.

These bags are supposed to emit a vapor that keeps your gun rust free for up to 3 years. For the price its worth taking the chance that it'll work.

I sweat acid, so anything to prevent rust is important to me.

I can't thank you enough for your information - I now know how to properly care for my guns in a rust enivonment.
 
I live in the hot humid southeast not as bad as your weather but bad enough in the summer. I use J.P.W. I totally clean the firearm with the grips removed. Then I apply a thin coat of J.P.W. let it haze up, and buff off with a CLEAN cotton cloth. I don't recommend getting any of this on the interior of any firearm, that is what the oil or grease of your choice is for.
