Earlier this week I received one of Rusty's Rags pistol cloths to review (See thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=543395 ).

I decided to try it out on my daily carry gun. This 229 is open carried daily and had gotten to looking a bit dull.

We have probably all used those gray "silicon cloths" that have been around for years. I've never found them to do all that much, they dry out quickly and you have to do a lot of rubbing to do any good at all. Rusty's sheepskin rag easily gets into all the little grooves and applies an even coat of protectant with very little pressure. It's easy to recharge with additional fluid when needed. Following the application, a little bit of buffing with the included flannel cloth returned a nice sheen to my dry looking 229. I also used it on my K-Bar with nice results.

I am very pleased with this product. Thank you, Latham, for giving me the opportunity to check it out. I'm very likely to be purchasing additional units, I think they will make great low cost gifts for friends and family this Christmas.

(Forgot to take a "before" pic, but here's the after:)

I would like to offer another review for Rustys Rags. I received the product from them with the intent to use them on Kydex holsters. I have been making and selling Kydex holsters for a couple years now, and have tried many things for treating and cleaning the Kydex. This product works better than anything I have tried. The sheepskin is perfect for wiping out the inside of the holster, and I believe it will substantially cut down on holster wear to the firearm. The silicone oil is odorless and long lasting from the tests I have done so far. I will recommend this product to all of my customers and believe it is the best product available for Kydex holster maintenance.

Got my Sample on Tuesday and proceed to wipe down all my pistols. All my pistols with a matte finish looked wonderful. Made my Dan Wesson covered in holster wear look brand new again. Only gun that it didnt do anything with was my glossy finished 1911. I really enjoy that the sheepskin gets into all the cracks without linting. And when it did wear in a spot on the 6 or 7th gun, you just trimmed it and reapplyed the oil. Ill prob keep one of these in my rotation after my cleaning sessions to keep the pistols looking brand new or when im planning on a sale.

I got mine a week ago and I feel bad having not posted as soon as i Used it but here i Am.

I love it my guns gook great. Its pretty easy to use. I will not be using anything on my guns but this. It is worth the money.

I plan on buying another for my brother this year for his birthday. You will not be disappointed.

I hope to try mine this weekend. I am not going to have the chance to go shooting but I will still try it out on clean guns. I will try and remember to take before and after pix.

I got my Rusty's Rag in the mail the other day. I would have really like to have given it a test run after shooting but I only get to shoot once or twice a month. I tried it out on four clean pistols. Please keep in mind with the pictures I have a cheap camera. I figured I took the pix so I should put them up here.

I started on my G17. The gun only has 250 rounds through it. Before using the product it was just a black gun. After using the product the metal in the gun looks like it has some depth. Another thing that I noticed right away was the product got into the fish gills. I have had trouble getting other product to do that.

Next I tried it on my S&W 422. I got this gun after my father-in-law passed away. I know very little about the history on it. I know it was made in 1987(I was 7 years old). I know it sat in a safe for 10+ years with out being touched. Since I got the gun it has been dull. I have tried a few different things to get the shine back in it. I have gotten a little of it back it but not a lot. The product did bring some shine back to it. I want to get aggressive and hit this pistol a few more times and see what happens. I will say this is the best this pistol has looked since I got it.

Now comes my Colt New Frontier. My Grandpa gave me this gun. He bought it back in 1972. This gun was used daily in a holster to take care of things on the farm. My grandpa took great care of this gun. I can't even guess how many tens of thousands of rounds that have gone through this gun. The one thing that jumped out to me was the product really brought out the bluing in this gun.

Finally I tried it out on my Camper. This gun has had about a thousand rounds down the barrel. The product brought out some shine in the stainless steel and it brought some depth to the rubber grips. It also brought some depth to the metal on my red dot.

I will continue to use this product. I really like the fact that with the sheep skin you can use it and not get the product all over your hands. I really want to try it on my guns after they have been shot and are nice and dirty. I have noticed with other product they make the gun nice and shiny, but then after a night or two in the safe they lose that shine. It will be interesting to see what they look like after a few days. One thing I don't like it the size of the sheep skin bag. I feel it could be bigger. It is hard to get the sheep skin back in the bag after using it. Which if that is the only thing I can find wrong with the product, you guys have done a great job making one heck of a product. My brother-in-law is also going to try it out. I will report back with his review. I will also report back after I have tried it on dirty guns. Thank you for giving me the chance to try out and review this product.

Great Pics and comments. Keep them coming!

If anyone knows of someone who could do a video demonstration of our product please let us know. We have had a lot of requests from people wanting a video of our product in action! We would like to put it on our website.

I received mine, and am very pleased with it. It got into all the nooks and crannies very well, and very quickly.

I will continue to use this product, and plan to give some out for Christmas this year as stocking stuffers.

I received mine as well, put it to use on all my pistols. worked awesome, will make some great gifts as well...

Wow, the rag works wonders. my xD9 always looked like dull plastic, even new. now it has a nice deep black look to it. went on easy and right into the grooves and texturing with no problem and wiped down to a nice even finish. Worked good on my GP100 stainless also. seems to have a bit brighter shine to it now.

I just got the package today, thank you very much. I'm going to take some before pictures and then use the product and take some more. I'll tell you one thing, these "rags" look to be of very high quality and will probably last a good long time.

More to follow...

Since I, too, benefitted from the free Rusty's Rags trial - and failed to give promised feedback - let me simply add my agreement with what has been posted here.

I asked for the "Rag" specifically for keeping in the gun bag so I could give my guns a quick wipe-down when wrapping up at the range. Sweaty hands can leave nasty rust spots on nice guns. Not only did these wipe up the finger prints quickly and efficiently, but they also gave the gun a very nice shine. The sheepskin gets into the nooks and crannies and the cream-colored flannel gave my big Smith 25 a nice shine.

I didn't really attempt to use the Rag to try to scrub the gun perfectly clean - just buy me time in case I got jammed up and didn't get back to clean the guns immediately afterward --- which is exactly what happened! When I contacted Latham, he said this was one of the uses he intends these to be used for. I checked a few minutes ago and the gun is still just fine...and waiting for a good scrub

I don't know if what I received is going to be the stocking size or if these were trial size. Either way, I highly recommend the product as a quick and efficient wipe-down cloth. From what others have posted, I apparantly need to be a bit more aggressive and use it for a deeper cleaning cloth as well.

Thanks for the opportunity to try Rusty's Rags and kudos for a job well done. Good luck on future sales!

edit to ad: I know this is going to make me sound stupid, but I'll go out on a limb. When I received the package, the outer bag said "Instructions included." It took me five minutes to find them - folded neatly - inside the flannel cloth, and even then only because I took the cloth out, finally, to see how big it is. Perhaps put the instructions in the larger, outer bag and not in the flannel cloth bag?

I finally had a chance to get to the range today and tried my Rusty's Rags. It works as advertised and has earned a permanent place in my range bag. It does indeed leave a nice shine to the guns but more importantly it removes all traces of fingerprints and sweat. The sheepskin gets the silicon into all those little areas that you can never seem to get into with anything else.

Thank you Latham for the opportunity to try your product. You have made a loyal customer.

I got my rustys I have a benelli supernova and really never had anything to wipe down the polymer sections. This Product make my shotgun look brand new. I was blown away by how well it worked. I will be ordering another very soon.

Great product. Both my Glock's look brand new after wiping them down after a range session. Thanks Latham. They'll be in my range bag from now on and will probably land under a few Christmas trees as well!

Received mine early last week and had a chance to try it out this past weekend. Decided a good test would be after a day at the range with a cap and ball revolver. After the normal cleaning routine with hot water, I decided to wipe down all the external parts with the rag. I really like how well it will gets into all the recessed areas of the gun. It's been two days since the wipe down and it still looks good with no signs of any rust anywhere. Look foward to a moe extensive test at another time. I give it a thumbs up for a quality product. Thanks for the sample and will purchase another one.

I got one and used it on my rifle. Great stuff, very nice material and does a nice job of bringing out the grain on a rifle stock.

My turn :D

Thanks to Rusty's Rags for shipping this to me quickly. It is a pistol rag, but I didn't have a pistol that needed any attention. However, I had a neglected Marlin 62 that only its mother could love. The stock appeared to be bare wood and the shallow bluing, while rust free, was splotchy.

A quick wipe down with the sheepskin really helped the stock. While the product intentions are mainly for metal protection, it does pretty up some plain wood. The metal parts had a nice film of the silicone oil that was even and not overly greasy. Overall, good product for the range bag or field kit.

After: Not dramatic, but I like the results.

great trial

Thank you Latham. I too received a generous gift from him to try out his new product. Everything was packaged nicely and orderly. As someone else said I did find the instructions hard to find but eventually found them. It might be better to just have the instructions in the bigger bag so they are found right out of the bag.

I used mine on a Glock, Ruger MKII, S&W snubbie, and an 870 Remington shotgun. I'm impressed as the silicone brought out a nice luster and shine. I really like how the sheepskin gets the silicone down into the crevices and doesn't leave lint like cotton gun rags do. It does a nice job of coating the guns to keep the rust at bay.

Latham, I think you have a winner here. I've been telling my shooting buddies how well it works and will be letting them try it on their guns the next time we go shooting. I too think this will make a nice Christmas gift for shooting pals.

I got mine. Used it to wipe down an old .410. I like it. Thanks Latham. I'll bookmark your website for future purchases.

I will chime in as well!

I got my rag a few weeks ago. I am 100% pleased. I can't add much to what has already been posted! I really respect a company that believes in their product, puts their money where their mouth is and steps up!

Thanks Latham for your generous offer. And thank you for a fantastic product. I will be buying several more to stash in my various range bags, hunting cases, and for my nightstand to keep my CCW always ready to go and tidy!

I got mine a week or two ago. It works well. I used it on my Taurus' Pt809 and 709. Even used it on the AK.

Thanks for a great product.

Hello THR Friends,

Well it has been a great ride, but it is about time for this Rusty's Rag giveaway to come to an end. We have given out more than 700 samples to people all over the US, military personal in Afghanistan, Europe, and a few other countries. I did not realize people from all over the WORLD use The High Road as their gun forum of choice. That says a lot. I would also like to give a shout out to the folks who run THR for all they do. I think I speak for everyone when I say that they are greatly appreciated!

I still have some more to give out for anyone coming in on the tail end of this offer. Please keep this post open so everyone who got a Rusty's Rag can tell of their experience with it. Hopefully it was good.

Thanks to all of you guys who have participated. I did not know very many people in this forum when I started this promotion. I have now created some friendships that I believe will last for quite a while.

Keep the reviews coming in as I am anxious to know everyone's experience. Also please help spread the word about our products to your friends, your local gun stores, chain stores, and anything and everything you can do to help. You guys really make a difference and I can't thank you enough for all of your help.

Thanks!

Latham
