EAA Witness .45
I own a Witness full size steel and a polymer compact - both in .45 (also a compact .40 and a full size 9mm). The Full size .45 is one of the most accurate and reliable (after considerable break-in) pistols that I own ( I have a couple dozen semi-autos). They are made by Tanfoglio of Italy, under license to CZ and imported by EAA (European American Armory). Tanfoglio also makes the 'Baby Eagle' for IMI, which is similar.
Tanfoglio made a couple modifications to the CZ design and also introduced .38Super, .40 S&W, .40AE, 10MM, 9x23mm, .45ACP chamberings, while CZ was still producing only 9mm. You can say that CZ adapted their CZ97 from Tanfoglio's design. The ergonomics of these pistols is phenomenal. My piece in Wonder hard chrome finish shows no signs of wear after about 5000 rounds and almost ten years of ownership, although it has turned a nice matte gray from the original matte silver. As for accuracy - I ONE time was able to put 10 rounds of PMC Match 230 FMJ through a hole that measured 7/8th of an inch in diameter, Weaver stance, distance 25 Feet. Never was able to do that again, but one hole groups of 1.5" at 25 FEET are the norm for mine. I paid $295 for mine back in 1998, it's worth every penny.
