Hi Y'All...

Ok, this is going to be a bit off-topic but I'll be brief.

If any of you charcoal-burners knows anything about how to research ancesters who were in the Civil War would you please send me a PM ?

By the way... in case anyone asks, "S.O.S." stands for "Save Our Sparks".
It was the motto of the Plymouth Colony Flintbusters Color Guard and Checkers Team.

;)

We seem to get a little bit more lee-way here than other sub forums with things as off topic, why not share the info here for all.

I have family that was in Northern KY during the War of Northern Aggression. I found lists of company rosters from units with both the Union and Confederacy.
The downside being that family names were listed with both. No way of telling what side any of my relatives might have fought with. But since they were from the area where these units originated I assume that some of my kin was in them.

Ancestry.com is pretty good. You have to buy a membership but has all kinds of records. I have a tree on there with some kin going back the the revolutionary war. I don't have the fancy membership so I don't have much info on my family before they came to the states. They has census record all kinds of stuff scanned. I found my great grandfathers enlistment card fow WW1, census records going back to 1910, telephone book listing, etc.

This is the first time that I ever searched and found my relative who served in the 27th Regiment of the Wisconsin Infantry.
Thanks a bunch for passing on the link! :)

I didn't see that, but I was aware that he died of disease in Louisiana which is where the record indicates that company "E" was sent.
Thanks again for bringing it to my attention. :)
