?'s on some S&W pistols

Never really interested in S&W semi's until now. I am looking at a 5906 and 4596 at the shop. Both are in excellent shape with 2 mags each. Hi caps for the 5906 and 8 rounders for the 4596. Both pieces together $800.00 out the door. Would that be fair? Also would these semi's be as reliable and shootable as some Sigs I own or be a disappointment? Any comments welcome.

You'll find mixed responses on S&W autos. I myself love them, and my carry gun is a 3913. I find that they are extremely well built, accurate, dependable, and point well. I've owned several Sigs in the past, but I always find myself coming back to the S&W's.

That being said, those prices seem awfully high to me.

I couldn't see paying over $500 for a 5906, and that would have to be in cherry condition (of course, that's just based on the prices I see around here in NW Ohio). You can find used 3913's here for $320 all day long.

See if you can talk down the price. If not, keep an eye out for a used S&W autoloader at gunshows. I think that you'll find that if you buy one, you'll buy more.

That's a bit high.

I bought a nearly new 5946 (The DAO version of the 5906) for about $275.
