See I'm gonna have to be the turd in the pool and say that the .357mag is better as a woods round. I guess this deviates a bit from the topic but it does serve to put the 1006 into some perspective. BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of all 3rd gen. S&W autoloaders-truly the underspoken of the gun world.
-The .357 will always edge out the 10mm as a woods gun because of bullet selection as well as having slightly better sectional density. Has anyone seen or fired the 200 gr. Cor-bon. Real flat hard lead meplat which will reduce riccochet and give it more bite and thrust against hard bone targets. BTW, 1200 fps. That's nice and fast for a thin 200gr. bullet- it'll be the proverbial icepick for game animals.
-This is what I carry in the woods, in my ruger that is. I think the 10mm is the last word in combat autoloaders for single shot stopping ability, and it does do well as a woods gun, but the ruger gp100 holds the edge in the woods.
I think the 1006 is the best 10mm offered thus far, with a close second given to the glock. One offers more recoil absorbtion and durability outta the box, while the other offers more firepower with 15+1. The glock can be brought up to speed but that means money with a new barrel and spring.
The 1911 platforms offer excellent triggers usually. Live with the small compromises.
-1006 is a fantastic gun!
