Has anyone bought The Smith & Wesson 1911 chambered in 9mm? I think this gun would be pretty cool. I have a S&W 1911 in 45acp which might be my favorite gun but this one intrigues me. I think it would be a good practice gun because of the low recoil and muzzle flip. Also, 9mm ammo is less expensive than 45acp. The only drawback is the price of the gun. The 9mm 1911 list for 1635.00 and the 45acp 1911 list for 1130.00. 500 hundred dollars more seem I little high. Any thoughts about the gun? Has anyone shot one?

The $1635 is for the Pro model 9mm. The similar 45 acp Pro, is $1535. A $100 dollar difference.

These aren't out yet (as far as I know).
I've seen speculation that the gun will retail in the $1000 - $1,100 range, which wouldn't be that high for a 'custom' 9MM 1911.
They are a ton of fun to run at the range, and when these are out I'll be taking a look at them.

A ramped barrel is one that incorporates the feed ramp, with the frame machined out to accommodate it. On a standard 1911 the feed ramp is in the frame, feeding into the barrel throat.

double stack? Probably not.
Extended? Probably so.

The S&W 1911 in 9MM will be a single-stack design, using a standard capacity magazine that fits 9 rounds. I'm not familiar with how many round extended magazines would give you (I know in .45 I have 10 rounders).
For double-stack designs you need to look at Para or STI.

I bought three Wilson 10 round 9mm mags and three Tripp Cobra 10 round 9mm mags. Had trouble with the Tripp, so bought two more Wilsons. Also bought a variety of the 9mm and 38 Super SA mags, all 9 rounders. SA are reliable. Just saw that Dawson Precision has come out with their own 10 round 9mm. 10 round 9mm will be very available as more 9mm 1911s are out there. 10 is legal for USPSA Single Stack Class. I bought the Baer PII last year. Great gun for speed steel. Might use it for USPSA some this year. I would use it for defense, but mostly carry the S&W1911PD Commander, scandium frame, with CT laser grips.
If the S&W 9mm is as reliable and accurate as my PD Commander it should be a great gun in the $1,000 to $1,300 price range. Dan Wesson and Fusion are also available at that price, if you can find them.
