S&W 1911SC E-Series bobtail?

I've a standard govt. E-Series in stainless, different breed but stable mates.
The good: out-of-the-box reliable, well machined, mild edges (dehorn light), grippy cocking serrations, lifetime warranty and positive extraction.
The bad: lackluster trigger, over cut bottom lugs (rides the link), undersized (and inconsistent) slide stop (pin), poor quality springs, flat faced front strap with short checkering.
I've opted to upgrade mine as I don't care to give up on an otherwise reliable pistol that would no doubt have suffered reliability problems in the form of premature parts failures as delivered. Sure warranty is great but it doesnt have you covered when your pistol drops out of the fight.
If the bobtail is similar, and judging by parts I'm guessing it is, you would be money ahead to consider a Dan Wesson.
Finally, though mine has been reliable in the short run I've read far too many threads about other E-Series pistols suffering from feed problems that required multiple round trips to correct, some resulting in replacement. Most of these have been the railed model followed by the bobtail. No longer on my recommended list but I aim to be happy with mine once finished.

That is one of the first things I noticed about the E-Series. I really wonder why S&W would use that frame style, I don't think I've ever seen somebody post they really want a flat front strap on their 1911.

I should qualify that a bit. There is a radius there but it falls short of the correct dimensions where meeting the flats of the magazine housing. A tighter radius would allow for an additional row of checkering on both sides and a smoother feel. It is not uncomfortable in the hand with wider stocks installed but the is a noticeable gap. Those familiar with Sarge's stocks from The Finer Grain know they fully cover the frame and the following pic. will show the extended front strap with a gap remaining. I have spoken to Rob Schauland at Alchemy Custom and both he and Jim Budde feel there is the potential to recut another treatment if desired due to the thickness of the front strap.
