I just picked this up today.The original box still had the price sticker from August 1964.$69.50!
Kind of dirty when I got it,but it cleaned up really nice.

Beautiful example of a 28-2.I need to find some age appropriate magnas for my 28 no dash 6 incher.Does anyone have a picture of what grips should be proper for a 28 no dash? or would they be the same as the gun in the post?$69.95 !? It was $350,which is slightly high in this area.I figured that since they aren't making any more of these and it was exactly what I was looking for,the price was OK.
 
$69.95!

That's all well and good, until, you remember that in August 1964 the minumum wage (for those who were covered since most jobs were not) was still $1.00.
Unless you worked for the railroads where it was a whopping $1.25!

$350 I think is a quite reasonable price in the condition yours is in ands with the box. Also mod 28 prices seem to be rising, people do not seem to be concerned it is the "cheap" mod 27 anymore and prices can be real close to it's fancier brother.

As far as I can tell looking through Jim Supica's S&W catalog the Magnas in the picture are the same as what would have been on a M28 (no dash).

The prices on the M28's are starting to go up. I've written in other other posts on other forums that here in Western Idaho the supply of M28's are starting to dry up while M27's seem to still be relatively plentiful. I've been able to find three M28-2's and I count myself lucky. M28's price between $350 - 400.00 in my area. I have never seen a 28 for under $300.00 and I most defintely have not seen one for $250.00. Those prices must be in Pennsylvania,Ohio and New England exclusively.
 
Adjusting for inflation an item priced at 69.50 in 1964 would be the equivalent of about $423 today. It seems to me that we are flat-out getting less for our money as one would expect to pay well over $1000 for a new-production revolver of the quality of the model 28.
 
Oh I don't know.

I paying about 10 times as much for eggs, milk, and gasoline as we did back in 1964.

I'm paying 7x as much for chewing gum and Kool-aid.

But a 50lb bag of Purina Dog Chow is only about 5x as much.

And I can buy US made commercial 230gr FMJ .45ACP for only 4x as much.
And FMJ 9mm for only 2x as much.

Everything changes according to it's nature.
