I have my grandfather's .32 Safet Revolver Ser. no. 64485. Can anyone tell me DOB of this piece?

Flayderman shows that SN in the range for the .32 Safety Hammerless First Model, made 1888-1902.
Sorry, I don't have the references to tie it down closer than that 14 year period.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out if it falls into modern gun category, pre-'99.

Flayderman says on some models but not that one.
Maybe it's in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson and somebody who has one can look it up for you.

In 1896. around serial number 35,000 They made some changes to the cylinder. I doubt they reached 64,4xx by the end of 1898.

If the answer is important S&W will research he original shipping records and tell you the exact day it was shipped, and to whom.
