I was recently handed down a S&W 32 from my grandfather he told me alittle about it before he died but i never knew when it was made. Im pretty sure i remember him telling me it was another family members sheriff dept service pistol but im not sure.
The length from the front sight to the hammer is alittle ove 3.5 inches and it has a walnut checkerboard grip, the serial number is 550XXX.
Any info would be great.

Answered in the DOB thread. Value is not high on these guns as there were a lot made and there is little interest in the .32 S&W long for defensive purposes these days, having been superceded by the .38 special in small guns. It's probably worth $300 in very good condition.
They do have a reputation for being accurate and .32 S&W long was a standard target cartridge for many decades, with minimal recoil so you may find it a pleasure to shoot.
