Ok, I thought that it was just coincidence, but after setting off 4 theft deterrent systems in different stores I'm wondering what's up with the 340PD? On the tax free weekend, I went with my wife to Kohls, Old Navy, and some place else, and at all but one of the three places the theft systems went off both coming in and leaving. Two days ago (after IKE) I went to Walmart and Krogers and Walmart's system lit up both going in and coming out.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Based on questions posted in another forum, I wasn't wearing anything new or that has set theft systems off before, and in at least two of the places, I intentionally left my cell phone at home to rule it out. I'm sheching under the grips to see if an RFID tag is under there by chance (don't know why one would).

I think that the walmart is the only store that I've been to regularly with out it, but it has set it off the one time with and I believe a second time. I think Walmart might have been the first store I sent to during the tax free weekend when I noticed it happen for the first time. This past weekend, it did it again.

Carrying a 342 since they came out.

No store alarms.

Did your FFL do something sneaking like put one of those theft-alarm stickies inside the grips? Be great for April Fools' Day.

Or maybe anit-gun chain stores are now ordering theft deterrent/metal scanner combined units?

Nope, nothing new. Wal-Mart $9 Hawaiian shirt and Levis cargo shorts. Ratty old lawn-mowing shoes.

Its most certainly not the gun but your shoes, clothes, or something in them (wallet?)

Nope, the only difference was that I was pocket carrying the pistol. I have not check the grips for an rfid tag. Just wierd. I go the that Wal-Mart at least once a week and the only time I've set off the system was when carrying the 340. I carried a G30 for a while with no problems at all. Shopping for a G26 anyhoo, b/c the 340 is my wife's - she just doesn't carry it.

rino,Soybomb,is correct. It cannot be the revolver.
Something else is making those alarms go off.
Otherwise ,we would be hearing media reports and S&W alerts, etc.
They've sold thousands of these popular models.LEO's are using them as BUG'S all over the country.
It has to be another source.

The EAS tags (electronic article surveillance) do not always go off when you walk through the towers. Sometimes when held at the proper angle they will not set off an alarm. If you bought your clothes at Kohl's very good chance there is a tag on the inside somewhere on an inside seam just waiting to get you again. Baby Gap and The GAP are also notorious in their use of EAS tagging. As wll they sew them in and it makes them a pain in the butt to remove. I work in loss prevention and deal with this everyday. Magnetic ID cards will do it too. Too many times I have had a customer so frustrated with setting off the alarms swear up and down its a problem with our alarms. To their surprise when they give me a few seconds of their time I am able to solve their problem or at least positively identify it.
