It's a handfull. Great carry weapon, though.
Good gun
The 686 is a great gun, and I have two of them - a 6 inch that I bought 15 years ago for $350 and a 2.5 inch that I bought last year for $595. I use the long one at the range and the short one for home defense. The price you quoted sounds high to me, especially for a gun with the lock. I'd look for a good used one in the $600 range, myself.
