Hello guys and gals I have an opportunity to buy a S&W 39-2 and I had a few questions that I am hoping you can answer. First off I want a set of Pachmayr grips and I see two sets, one with backstrap and one without; does this replace the grip insert in the frame or does it just lay on top of it? And either way could I get some picks both sets. Secondly I found a quick draw hammer for the gun Numrich item #398860A and was wondering if anyone had picks of that too, I searched on line for a good hour and couldn't even find anything on it let alone pics. Lastly for now I also wanted to get the bushing comp for it from gunparts warehouse, once again picks would be nice but also how is the fitment to the barrel and frame... would you say it is as good fitment as standard bushing or does it need fitted? Thanks a bunch! :D

The backstrap piece of the Pachmayr grip does not replace the backstrap. There is a picture here http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mB8JgwXwF6H_96NdRSsfLLg.jpg

I'm not sure why they call it a quick draw hammer, but it is just a spurless hammer and there is a picture on the Numrich site under the listing.

I didn't know they still made bushing mounted compensator for the M39. I don't think fitment is very important as the compensator is more for looks than anything else

I can olnly answer the grip thing. On mine it is just a piece of extra rubber that covers the backstrap.

thanks. yeah I had seen the pic of the hammer itself but was wondering if anyone used one and had a pic of it on the gun. Also I was wondering if those that have used it if they liked it/why or why not. I noticed that while the hammer is "bobbed" it also has serrations on the top, I was wondering if this was liked by people and if it was enough to properly cock it.

Leave the Model 39-2 alone.

The stock hammer is perfectly usable.
Replacing hammers on them is not like a Lego set, and may need fitting to work safely, or at all.

And it doesn't need a 'Quick Draw' hammer anyway, as the gun is double-action for the first shot.

The Comp barrel bushings are all show and no go.
They won't do anything on a 9mm 39-2 except make the gun look goofy.

Most are a rattling fit, and will harm accuracy over the stock bushing.

Whats not too like about this just the way it is?

After you experience how the factory grip feels in your hand, you will abandon the idea of those awful rubber grips.

I've handled many handguns.

I have yet to handle one that felt more perfect with the factory grips than the 39-2.

If the grips on your gun are chewed-up, OEM replacements are easily had.

This isn't a "-2", it is a Gen3, but it would look pretty much the same

I used one on a M469 and a M3913 and it really doesn't make much difference unless you were using a thumb-break retention strap...in which case it wouldn't work.

The serrations are superfluous, the M39's hammer is properly cocked by pressing the trigger or by retracting the slide. It is properly lower, by using the safety/decocker

I'm with rcmodel: the Model 39 is a classic DA/SA pistol and really works fine just as it originally came from the factory.

Thanks for all the info and insight guys. The comp thing is definitely a no go at this point and I am glad for the input on the grips. With the grips in mind does anyone make a factory contoured grip with a rubber finish like hogue makes... I am a sucker for the feel of rubber grips. This project may be put on the back burner for a little while though, I just got a glimpse of one of these for sale.
