I gotta git my rear in gear and sell all the records I don't listen to, been wanting a 1006 badly for over a year, and 5 mags alone are worth at least 150, so that is a great deal imo and I'm kickin myself for not havin the $

I have put about 800 rounds through Model 457 before I sold it. While I luv their vintage revolvers I doubt I will ever join S&W pistol club.

***I think they came with 2 mags, so that's only $90 worth of extra mags.

Here is "The One That Got Away"

This was my first 3rd generation S&W that I come to enjoy a 4506-1. I sold it however due to the fact that I didnt like the blue hammer and trigger, they would rust when I was out in the rain for too long and needed complete takedown to clean:uhoh:. I wish now I had just replaced the parts with stainless ones because I really really enjoyed that gun.:banghead:

Hey Sharps, I was writing in regards to the link in post #50, a WTS post I had seen prior to reading that post in this thread. It's a 1006, that looks like it's in good shape, and the offer includes 5 mags, one of which has had a repair. Still think it's a great deal and wishing I could make it mine right now. According to your math, the mags are worth even more than I originally assumed.

Big Shep, get another one! Replace the hammer and trigger as you see fit

Gotta show off my 9mm collection. 6906, 908 and CS9 that I just added Crimson Trace lasergrips to.

They all fit the same leather, share the same manual of arms, and some of the mags will interchange. I can carry basically the same weapon no matter the weather and how I dress.

Nice, nice, nice.

The CS9 is one of my most commonly lusted after gun's. So pretty.

My 5906 is my favorite 9, and I own a bunch of 9's. I can't believe that Smith abandoned this design. It's one of the finest all steel da/da pistol designs of all time, and they just tossed it out. Sad.

I could not agree more with you.I have two 5906,s they are fine pistols.

I went to the Land of the Sky gun and knife show in Columbia, SC today. Saw a few S&Ws kicking around but not the one I'm looking for. So the best I can do right now is my Gen 2 459. Maybe my six numbers will come up tonight and price will no longer matter. I would love to make that call to ATF. "Hey guys, just introducing myself and letting you know I won the lottery and I'm going on a buying spree. Thought I'd let you know before my name gets on your radar screen."

S&w 4044

Picked it up at OKC show.not knowing much about it. could use some help in that area? But the hundred rounds i put thru it went flawless. So looks like i got a good gun and even better deal....

I have now owned two of these in this year, I bought a 4506-1 and loved it but after some carrying in the woods my O.C.D.'s kicked in and I couldnt stand the thought of the blued hammer and trigger getting wet while I was out in the hunting so I sold it. I soon missed it and when the opportunity came up I got another, it is a 4506 no dash and it is now on its way. I will post pictures as soon as I get some.

This thread is for all the 3RD genration S&W owners to post their pictures questions knowledge and whatever else they want about these great guns, to me they are some, if not the, best semi autos ever made.

I do have a question now to anybody who might have the answer: Did the 4506 with the round trigger guards come with chromed triggers and hammer or did they change them to blued when they changed the trigger guards to round?
Back in club with .45 Mod 457s. Have to get me couple of those 8 round magazines in addition to two 7-shot ones the gun came with. Life is grand!;)

I like all 3rd Gen Smiths.... In fact I have a 5906 I use for my "bump in the night" choice. My wife's favorite is the 3913LS..

Usually I'm a 9MM kinda guy, but I have one 45ACP, the CS45, and I love it as well..

Third Generation Smiths ~ To my mind, underrated, under appreciated, under priced for the value received, and under the radar of most young gun buyers.

J.
