3rd Gen S&W question

I tried to sell my never fired 4506-1 here a couple of weeks ago and decided to pull it. I may trade it and some cash for a NIB Sig 220R.......only for one reason - parts availability in the future. Springs, extractors, etc. Does anybody know how long a company like S&W would keep making parts for the 3rd Gen guns?

Numrich has lots of parts.

I don't know how long S&W will have parts available, but I'm sure they will have at least some level of support for some time.

There is no way of knowing for certain. My best guess would be 10 years or when they run out of parts, whichever comes first. There are any number of private gunsmiths and sources for used parts as well.

Parts are everywhere for the 3rd gens.. The PD trade-ins have been flooding the market @ about $280 per pistol, and could easily be used for parts weapons, plus as noted above good 'smiths all over have the inventory. It's kind of the 350 V-8 of .45s.
