Hey ya'll! first post here and first question.

I finally took possession of a ANIB, 1978, S&W 41, 7". In reading the manual where it talks about adjusting the trigger over-travel- it says to "Adjust and Fire". No mention was made about fired cases in the chamber, action dummys, or snap caps. They don't advocate the firing of their rimfires, do they? Anybody with a 46, 2206, 22A, etc see anything in their manuals about doing the ultimate evil and dry firing their Smiths?

The S&W Model 41 was made to be dry fired. It is a pure target gun and target shooters routinely dry fire their guns thousands of times. Use snap caps if you want (cut away the rim so you don't eject the snap cap every time you work the slide) but they are not needed.

I still have the Model 41 I shot in Army AMU in the late 1960's.
It has been dry-fired so many thousands of times I couldn't even guess at the exact number.

SO, dry-firing it to set the over-travel screw will do no harm whatsoever.
