It meets my needs. I have the regular 410, and its actually sitting about a foot away at the moment. I never have had issues with it. However, I keep my two glocks bedside, but that more of a personal preference since my recent move. Those were the only two guns that I was able to not only find but also find my extra magazines for.
My move was about 3 weeks ago, so unpacking non essential items like gun accessories, extra (range) ammo and such was not super high on the list. I was using plastic cutlery and paper plates the first two weeks since that was all I could quickly find. My new job paid for not only the move, but also the packing, so finding items that were packed was sometimes a lot of work.
Anyways, my model 410 is nice and solid. My common shooting buddy loves it, along with my two model 457's. If I could find a second model 410 at a reasonable price (meaning not new retail at $600+), I would get it. It fits my hand very well, and I shoot very well with it. Of all my guns, its probably the one that I am most accurate with.
.40 is a good caliber too, 9mm is fine as is .45, but all things considered, it would make a fine bedside or range gun. Once I get my twin S&W 45's together and loaded up, I think I will deploy those for secondary home duty.
But the 410 will definitely have its place near the front door of the house, its the best choice. Its not something that I would normally try and use as a CCW, but its good enough for everything else.
It takes whatever ammo I throw at it. Wolf, Wincester Whitebox, Blazer Brass, etc. Never had an issue with it. My Glock's however, don't completely like all my ammo for some reason, likely related to the magazine itself. I'll have to look into that issue tomorrow, as it just came up today when I was clearing the chamber so that I could do my monthly inspection. I keep pulling back the slide until the magazine runs dry just to check a few things out. Probably not a needed test, but it sure is fun watching it eject all the rounds one at a time. It probably similar to what one might consider a malfunction drill.
