I was think about buying a new S&W 422 for $189. I was wondering if I could get some feeback on it. And if not good info then other choice to look at.

Even if it is a fixed sight version, $189.00 would be an excellent buy on one of these pistols new in the box.

I have had three of these pistols, two of which I still own.
They have all been better than expected and I don't really understand why exactly S&W discontinued them though they claim lack of sufficent sales.

The 422 and 622 use the same magazine as the Model 41 target pistol and 12 shot magazines are again available unless you live in a restricted state.

I have a 622 target mdl which is the same gun in stainless/alloy with 6" bbl, adj sights, & walnut grips, & it's a great gun & very accurate. I bought it new in 1993 or 94 before the ban I think I paid about $275. If I could find a 4" 422 for that price I'd probably buy it, it would make a great plinker. I'll tag on a pic of it with my S&W K22 & Walther P22 just for fun.

sako_43,

Welcome to THR.

Great guns! I bought one mainly to teach new shooters. New shooters , especially kids , do not have the stamina, and hand strength to hold a handgun very long without fatigue. This gun is light, easy for new shooter, fits hands quite well, easy to operate , and easy to break down to clean.

Out and about , one forgets it is there, that light and comfy. I took quite a bit of small game with mine, especially squirrels. I let others borrow it for plinking and all...

One of those not often shared best secrets, that folks need to buy just to have for nieces , nephews , kids, grandkids, and introducing new shooters.

I've got a 6" barrelled 422 that comes with me to the range almost every time. It's light, accurate and pretty reliable. $189 is a good price.

My father bought me a 422 when I was 17 or thereabouts. It shoots great. I see them occasionally for <$300. I think he gave $140 for mine LNIB. A friend of mine has the 8-shot compact version and it shoots well but is more difficult.

I bought 1 off gunbroker and i love it DO NOT think about buying a walther p22 bigest hunk of junk ever made better yet dont buy a walther because it comes with a tool bag . 422 is a great 22 shoots anything you feed it

Ditto on the P22 - Junk. Started out OK then went south. Jam, Jam, Jam, Jam. Maybe it was me. The guy I sold it to for $125, after explaining why, loves it!!
I told him he might find some ammo it liked . Guess he did.
