I personally think the 4506 is one of the better pistols ever produced by S&W.
Pros they tend to be accurate, very reliable and easy to shoot.
Cons they are large heavy handguns that require good to outstanding belts and good leather for comfortable carry.
If you are looking for a large accurate auto I don't think you will go wrong with the 4506.
Some people really don't like the traditional double action trigger, but it is what I learned on so it really does not bother me.

I love my 4506-1 
Built like a tank, smooth shooting, accurate and reliable.
They are heavy but not as heavy as the popular Sig P220ST.

You could shorten that by removing the "by S&W" and I would agree 100%. I have a 4506 (along with a 5906, 4006 and 1006) and I believe S&W 3rd gen stainless autos to be some of the finest pistols ever made. I have never had a failure in my 4506, or 4006, and the 1006 has only jammed with the older truncated cone-style Norma ammo. It has been fine with everything else, including 180 grain loads that develop just under 800 ft/lbs. I can count the number of failures with the 5906 on one hand.
If you have a chance to buy a 4506 in good condition, buy it. BB value for 98% guns is $585, I believe. I paid $450 for mine less than a year ago. I will buy another if the opportunity presents itself.
