I am seriously eyeballing this hand cannon. As far as I can tell the V and XVR are the same or did I miss something?

Leaning towards the 5" but if there are good reasons to for the 8" instead let me know.
Not intended to ba a defense gun, do not hunt either. Just a new toy...

I was always under the impression the "V" stood for the Roman numeral 5 as in 5" barrel. If you are not hunting and just banging away at the range, odds are the "V" will do just fine, altho I would expect the 8" would tend to be a tad more accurate for the average person due to the longer sight radius and less recoil. But bangin' away @ 25-40 yards with few rounds every range session, I doubt one would see much measurable difference.

At $3.00 a round for factory, you'd only be shooting a few times at each session.:)

I have a 460 XVR but have not handled the shorter version. With the frame so large, the XVR balances well even with the 8" barrel. It balances much better than an 8-3/8" N frame.

Recoil is still impressive with the longer barrel with factory loads.

Just called S&W. If I understood correctly [never guaranteed] the V is indeed the 5" version and the XVR comes in several lengths incl. 8" and 14".
The CS person said the internals are the same with all of these [pretty sure she was guessing though].

PS: XVR=X-treme Velocity Revolver.

Yes the 460V is the 5" version, with the V being the Roman Numeral for 5. It's a fantastic gun and I've been shooting mine since 2009. It shoots flat out to 75 or so yards with 200 gr ammo. XVR is supposed to shoot flat out to 100 yards if you believe some of the factory loadings. With the shorter than original barrel the fireball it produces is impressive, not that that is a positive thing or anything. Just the nature of things when you run a cartridge through a shorter than originally designed barrel. I have carried mine in a Desantes hip holster with suspenders.

It's a load of fun, and I enjoy it every time I shoot it. It's a bit less accurate with 45 Colts. If you're just looking for a fun gun, this one works well. It is also adequate for angry critter defense. If you have any desire to hunt, I'd go with the XVR.View media item 50View media item 49

Ordered the 5" version today from my favorite gun monger. $1100 plus tax. Ok I guess...
Now the fun starts...waiting for the call...
