Bought a 586 new from my LGS. Few cosmetic issues, but had issues with light primer strikes and a very sticky extraction on one of the cylinders. Called on Monday April 1 for return label. I got the return label with fed ex label in about 4 days. They had a completely different first name on the label, but everything else correct. I call fed ex to schedule pick up from work, but it was denied because S&W sent a 2 day label. Bummer. I call S&W and they tell me that FedEx should have picked it up. At the end of the day, Fed Ex refuses and I have another shipping label being sent for overnight shipment. So far, all I've experienced is lack of detail with 2 errors just trying to get it back to S&W.

Sad thing is, this 586 is my 7th S&W purchase in a one year period. All the others have been flawless. If this trend continues, it will likely be my last.

Wow, all it takes is one screwup with a shipping label to end your brand loyalty forever?
Might you have noticed that the entire gun industry is busier than a dockside pleasure-house when the fleet is in?
Not an S&W apologist but it seems to me you might want to let them see the revolver before you condemn them for life.

+1

I had to return a 686 Plus for warranty work a few years back. S&W paid S/H both ways and returned my revolver in perfect working order. The timing and lockup are amazing. I would not draw a line in the sand just yet.

It seems to me the problem is more with FedEx then Smith & Wesson.

Smith and Wesson is the one paying for shipping, and it appears that your local FedEx shipping outlet is the one doing the nit-picking. I would go back, ask to talk to whoever was in charge, and get names if they didn't do what they are supposed to do - at once! If they're was still a problem I would report back to S&W and name, names. Without question they have more leverage with FedEx then you do.

Ok guys. My Fed-Ex guys gets here and I ask him. He says no problem, it's not a ground shipment. Marks firearm on the receipt, scans it and away it goes.

I'm not condemning S&W yet here guys, I said if this trend continues.....lack of attention. How the heck you get Herman from Thomas, I have no idea. Remember the call tag had the wrong name on it. He even spelled it back. That's the lack of detail I'm talking about. If that trend continues, yes, why wouldn't I feel soured on the brand.

I've had a Taurus M66 that was serviceable but not refined. I kept it for years until it began to shoot loose and got rid of it. I won't be buying a Taurus anytime soon, especially when there are others to choose from. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I rarely ever let there be a twice. Just as my cheating Ex.

Keep that up and you will run out of brands to buy. Nobody is perfect, and that goes for gun companies too. :)

I think y'all are completely missing the point. If it comes back satisfactory, all is good. It's if there continues to be issues, it doesn't come back fixed, etc that I won't be very happy. It's not a good start when they can't even get my name right on the return ticket after they recite it back to me correctly on the phone.

Odd about FedEx. I had a shipping label for them from Springfield Armory and they didn't give me any problem with shipping. All the gun manufacturers have an agreement with FedEx and USP to ship 2nd-day

You didn't tell them it was a firearm, when you asked for a pickup, did you?

I told them it was a firearm and gave them the numbers on the call label sent by S&W when I called for pickup. The lady scheduling the pickup made a huge deal it wasn't overnight and refused to schedule the pickup. I asked my regular fed ex guy when he came and he just shrugged his shoulders, scanned it and took it no problem. Said it wasn't ground and it was fine.

So I'm not sure what the issue was, but its off to smith. I'm hopeful it comes back fixed. If so, I may ship it off to cylinder and slide for some work.

The lady was confused, the pickup guy understood, the big manufacturers have shipping arrangements not available to regular customers.
