I'd posted about this revolver last week and concluded it wasn't in the cards. Well, seems it didn't run off as quickly as expected, we came to an arrangement and now it has a new home, in my safe :)

The only two changes I see right now are grips better suited to me and a replacement thumb latch that's more conventional.

I wonder sometimes, even though I'd sold off my rimless revolvers I managed to hold on to all the moonclips, and the mooning and de-mooning tools. Fate maybe? We shall see ;)

IIRC, the 3" and 5" are less popular/desirable, because the 4" are the only ones that are IDPA legal (if I'm wrong, I apologize, but that is what I remember when I was looking at them about 5 years ago).

That said, I think the 3" is very desirable, and I think you did quite well. I would swap out the grips as well, and I'm not familiar with (or enthusiastic about) that cylinder release, but that is easily enough rectified.

Enjoy that 625.

Congrats....that's a great looking 625. Glad to see that you didn't let it get away. And the Combats are very nice. They should be easy to sell if you wish.

The 3" are in demand more than the other barrel lengths, but fewer 4" models were produced.
It took me over 2 years to find a 3" at a reasonable price...this one is a keeper for life.
Sold the 4" :banghead:

Congrats, and I'll buy those Combat grips so PM me off list
did you get the stock Hogue pattern rubber grips with the
revolver?

I checked out S&W website, accessories
a week or so ago and noted what S&W offers in
wood grips. For my J frame they offer 3 different ones
from $31 to $ 62 fwiw

Excellent find. I'd love to find a 3 inch like it. Mines a 4 inch. I replaced a set of hideous rubber stocks on mine with a set of smooth combat Kim Ahrends and never looked back. The 625 of 1989 is one of the truly great revolvers of all time. Congrats

Good job Bikemutt!

I have one like yours (but no printing on the barrel) and it is one of my keepers! I mean real keepers!

If I packed a revolver in the winter instead of my Glock, it would be the one I'd use.

I have .45 Supers that are 'tactical' loaded. Will get a true 1000 fps with a 230 gr. JHP from that 3 inch barrel. And with .45 ACPs it gives one hole groups at 10 yards.

Yes a good set of concealment RB grips are what you need.

Very nice! And I'm sure someone will be happy to relieve you of those combats if you so choose.:)

Well done. Although I love my 5" 625, I wish it were the 3" version.

Regards

OK, I found a thumblatch at Numrich and have that on order.

Seriously considering VZ grips like these: https://vzgrips.com/gun-grips/smith-wesson/n-frame/320s/n-frame-320-black-g10

Or maybe like this one: https://vzgrips.com/gun-grips/smith-wesson/n-frame/320s/n-frame-320-black-gray-g10

I also would like to replace the front sight, looking for recommendations :)
Clarks Custom Guns near Shreveport (and others) can put a red insert INTO the existing front sight if you want. I did that to a Ladysmith of mine!

Nice score Mutt! With the right load that thing should be a kick in the butt to shoot. It was smart to hang on to the tools for loading/unloading the moonclips, I invented some new words trying to use my bare hands for my model 1989 clips.

I know some have asked about taking any parts I don't need off my hands, and I will do that, but I'll wait until I know I'm happy with the replacements first; I've heard these are painful to shoot without grips :D

I think so NewGuy. No makings on the barrel (but frame has them.)

Must have got that gun 20 years ago at a gun show in Dallas.
