I REALLY need to stop going to pawn shops and making offers that I think they will refuse....
On my lunch break, today, I went to a local pawn shop and was casually looking at what they had in stock. Naturally, they had a revolver that the wife and I have been looking at for the last several months. It is a S&W 629-4 with 6.5" barrel and Power Port. My wife's been wanting one to shoot while I'm shooting my Colt Anaconda, so.....They had it marked at $540, and (thinking they'd bottom out at $500), I offered them $475. Just figures that they'd accept the offer. Now I'm wishing I'd offered even less. Anyway, I walked out of there with it about five minutes later.
It appears to be in excellent condition. There are no nicks, dings, or even light scratches on it. A very fine drag line is visable on the cylinder. It had enough filth to look like it had less than a box fired through it and I didn't see any build-up in the cracks and crevices, so, either it hadn't been fired much, or the previous owner was very meticulous at cleaning it sometime recently. I even got the original S&W blue plastic case with it.
Now, at about $300 over our agreed price to spend on anniversary gifts, my wife has a nice S&W 629 for our anniversary.
BTW - Anyone know how to date this S&W serial number "CBY64xx"?
