I REALLY need to stop going to pawn shops and making offers that I think they will refuse....

On my lunch break, today, I went to a local pawn shop and was casually looking at what they had in stock. Naturally, they had a revolver that the wife and I have been looking at for the last several months. It is a S&W 629-4 with 6.5" barrel and Power Port. My wife's been wanting one to shoot while I'm shooting my Colt Anaconda, so.....They had it marked at $540, and (thinking they'd bottom out at $500), I offered them $475. Just figures that they'd accept the offer. :scrutiny: Now I'm wishing I'd offered even less. Anyway, I walked out of there with it about five minutes later.

It appears to be in excellent condition. There are no nicks, dings, or even light scratches on it. A very fine drag line is visable on the cylinder. It had enough filth to look like it had less than a box fired through it and I didn't see any build-up in the cracks and crevices, so, either it hadn't been fired much, or the previous owner was very meticulous at cleaning it sometime recently. I even got the original S&W blue plastic case with it.

Now, at about $300 over our agreed price to spend on anniversary gifts, my wife has a nice S&W 629 for our anniversary.

BTW - Anyone know how to date this S&W serial number "CBY64xx"?

I have a new gun!!! yipeee!! :D But are you sure you want to give a gift that fires back? :what: It really is a beautiful gun with VERY little wear on it. Can't wait to go shooting now! What a great gift and a wonderful suprise! :p

I picked up a 629-4 just like the one you described a few months ago. I didn't go in to the shop looking for one, but it was just...there. And SO beautiful! I haven't regretted a moment. It shoots .44 mags very comfortably, and is EXCEPTIONALLY accurate. You won't regret a thing with that purchase.

I'm sure someone will chime in with a date of manufacture.

I'm going to do a PPT for the same exact pistol too this week sometime. I think I would have preferred to get it without the Power Port, but that is what popped up for sale......I just saw the local Turner's Outdoorman Stores out here in Southern Ca. having a sale on the S&W 625 JM model for $649 or so....hmmmmm.

Best I can tell from the SCoS&W book, it looks to be 1997.

Thanks for the date!

We finally got to shoot the gun last night and the wife really likes it. I shot it first and liked the way it felt and the lower felt recoil compared to my Colt Anaconda. I won't form any opinions between the two guns until I've fired the S&W a few more times.....well, assuming that Missashot lets me.
