I'm looking to buy a used S&W 629 Classic with a 5 or 6.5 inch barrel. I can find them all over the place (in very good condition) here in centeral Virginia for $750. Is $750 too much? If so, what would be a good price setpoint for me?

I got a 629-3 with a 6.5" barrel in the box for $600 about 7 months ago. Nice guns. I don't know what your location is but that can make a difference in price.
Welcome to the forum.

Back when my surgically repaired wrist would allow me too, I owned and
shot a Smith & Wesson 629-5 .44 magnum quite regularly. This was most
likely sometime between 1998 and 2003; I'm not quite sure~? But, the 5"
S&W 629's are both fun to shoot; and easy to handload for~! ;) :D

Buds has new ones in stock for $786. I would expect a used one LNIB around here to go for $600.

Around these parts, the 629's usually aren't available at the steal prices you see many other wheelguns. Not sure why, but that's how it is. $600-$700 for most models in VG to exc. cond.

I did recently have a chance to pick up a no lock 629-5 mountain gun for $450, but I didn't have the money, and I already have a 629-2 3".
