Hi guys, I picked up a pre-lock S&W 629 4" mountain gun in 44 mag today. Excellent shape, it belonged to a guy's granddad and after he passed away, it did nothing but sit in the safe. Anyways, i've heard that there isn't a lot of pre -lock mountain guns around, is that true? Just trying to get a litle bit of info on it.

I don't recall any Mountain Guns being especially abundant, but don't count on buying a house in the Hamptons with your profits from this one...;)
They are a neat piece but somewhat specialized. You'll enjoy shooting .44 spls more than full house magnums.
Great story about the Mountain Gun; a couple Norwegians wanted to ski to the North Pole, without dogs or other support. They hauled their food and gear on a lightweight sledge, and took a pair of Mountain Guns because they were lighter than a rifle.
They were stalked for two days by a polar bear; when push came to shove, one guy took pictures while the other killed the bear with his .44. The pictures were in the National Geographic.
Enjoy your gun; neat revo, and not just everyone has one.
