S&w 637

Anyone have one of these?

How is it.. and how does it compare to say a model 60 chief snubby from the 80's?

I was talking to my LGS about a Charter, and the price difference is less than $50 between the Charter and the S&W, and everyone has steered me that the S&W is a better gun.

Great gun. The trigger pull in DA is too heavy for my liking but that can be remedied with a different spring set. I find that the trigger guard presses into my 2nd finger pretty hard when shooting +P rounds and I've not found a remedy for that yet - a different grip would likely help but then it wouldn't conceal as well. The gun is certainly accurate, especially when shooting in single action. I carry mine every day and if it was ever lost/stolen/destroyed I would immediately go out to buy another one.

Very nice j-frame that I've concealed inside the waistband, on my ankle and in my pocket. My wife does not find it too objectionable to shoot either.

5 yrs ago I shot a new Charter and 637 together for comparison. Both were .38spl snubs . Avoid the Charter.

I love my 637, I put a set of sile grips on it. It hits point of aim with the loads I have tried.

If that's all you can afford, save up a little bit longer.

There's just a world of difference between a good Smith & Wesson & a Charter Arms.
Fit & finish are like night & day.

The M637 is a lot like the M60 except it's a lot lighter. The M637 has an alloy frame while the M60 is Stainless. Other than the weight and what they are made of they are very similar. All the 15oz S&W Airweight are good carry revolvers IMO although if you're going to pocket carry you might look at the M642 or M638 instead because the hammer is either concealed or covered.
