OK - I’ve decided that an S&W 642 is my next purchase. I am definitely going to be placing a crimson trace laser on it.
My question is about the laser grips them selves.

The questions relate to the “new” CT LG-405 vs. the “old” CT-305

1) Does anyone have any comparative experience using the 305 and then the 405?
Does the extra pocket on the 405 add that much more “comfort” to the J frame?

2) I can not find the spec, but it appears that the 405 is shorter than the 305. True?
(I have big hands so more real-estate is better for me.)

3) Is there any worth in purchasing the pistol from S&W with the CT grip included?
(Which happens to be an S&W branded CT-305) as opposed to purchasing the gun and then adding the grip after?

I hate to say it but I’m already thinking legalese’ here.
Buy purchasing the firearm from S&W with the laser installed looks less “Rambo” than adding it later yourself.

(as a side note the S&W web site has the 642 with CT Laser grips listed at $727 my local gun store has them NIB for $499 with the S&W factory CT Grips installed)

Thoughts on any - or all - of the above are greatly appreciated.

RTFM.

I have a set of the 405's on my S&W 638. They're quite nice. The 405 is the replacement for the earlier 205, not the 305.

The 305 is a larger grip as you can see looking at it.

The 405 (and the earlier 205) are smaller and easier to conceal, but not as easy to control. Also, 2/405 models are hard rubber. The 305's have a softer rubber surface with more friction to them.

The differences between the 205 and the 405 are the "pocket" at the back of the grip and an external on-off switch for the laser. The 205 had no switch.

I wouldn't worry about the rambo issue. If it ever comes up you just show that they're sold that way by S&W. You're adding a factory option at a later date. Nothing more.

AAahhhh thanks BryanP.
I guess I naturally thought the 4' would be after the 3'
So 2 to 4 is a small grip and 3 is it's own family.

In that case, I think I shall go with the CT grip installed from S&W on the pistol out of the box.

Thanks.
