S&W 642 Barrel is Cracked!

S&W must have a wide range of quality that is being put out because often when a company puts out guns that have cracked bbls or major flaws like that, they tend to put out crappy gun in general. I don't think this is the case with S&W because I have seen some fine new revolvers that I couldn't find a single flaw with. What is going on that some guns are perfect and some have major flaws like a cracked bbl?

My 642-2 is flawless. It was made last year sometime and I have been looking it over very closeing all day because of the other post on the S&W 637. I can anything that I would consider a flaw. The MIM trigger has me a little worried because of the stories I have heard but it looks good and feels great on my finger. The trigger pull is odd. It is not bad but it is a little stange when you are used to the older revolvers. I think it is better than most of the older Rugers and S&W that I have felt. It is light and smooth and stages at the end which is nice for a hammerless to do.

I like the older guns more than most people, I have a C&R so I buy a lot of the old time stuff but this new S&W that I have is fine. I can't see what people are screaming about. I don't blaim people for getting mad about a cracked bbl, that is a problem. What I don't understand is, why are people against anything new? If it is not just like it used to be, someone always gets mad.

Got my snub back, it was a total of 10 days from my door to S&W and back. They spun a new bbl on since the frame was ok. I'm going to shoot it tomorrow. Hopefully no cracks will appear.:scrutiny:

Shot it today with the carry load and range ammo, all is well. Also checked the cylinder allignment. I installed Wolf reduced springs for a much better pull and had no ignition problems and the gun grouped well for me.

The wife now has it on her nightstand and will be her carry piece when her chl arrives. In the mean time we will get in some range practice with her new .38 and the G19.

I don't know what models they are on , but S&W makes some barrels from MIM. My place of work did a single cavity tool back about '98 for S&W .38 Spl barrel about 2" long.

I usually stand up for MIM, cuz if it's done properly there aren't any problems, but I just can't see a MIM barrel.
