:DI picked up a brand new S&W 642-2 for 360.00 at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday. I've wanted one of these for a long time and this is the cheapest I've seen them new. I just checked locally a while back and they were 440.00. Very nice and easily concealable little revolver. I took it straight to the range and was surprised at how well it shot. From 5-7 yards I had no problem hitting the 'kill zone' of the target. I like the long trigger pull and the way it goes into SA mode when you pull it back just before the hammer strikes. I shot up 2 boxes of Magtech .38sp and 10 rounds of Corbon 125gr+P JHP's. I've ordered a case of Gold Dot 135gr+P's and I intend to master this little gem. Recoil wasn't a problem at all, in fact was about the same as my Glock 23. I wish I had bought one sooner. Now I need a good IWB holster so I can carry it. I'm just a little too hefty for pocket carry right now.

You will love it. If you carry it, every thing else you carry will suddenly seem cumbersome. I paid $385 delivered for the last one I bought. Last week.

Not to chortle in a childish way but:

1. I got a 642 for $309 when the new ones came out, no lock!!
2. I got a 432 (love snubbies) for $335 at the tail end of their run
3. Scored a beautiful Colt Cobra Snubby for $350 at a firesale.

Sorry to be immature.

Had a sw 651 and sold it and now they went up in price significantly!!

Enjoy the 642 - great pocket guns!!

Thanks for the kind replies. I took the 642 with me to Wal-Mart last night to see how it 'fit'. I slipped it into the front pocket of my Carhart jacket and almost forgot it was there. I have a small piece of velcro sewn into the lower part of the pocket that keeps it closed when I have my Glock in there so it was safe and out of sight. The 642 is so light and small compared to the Glock. Like comparing a brick to a bar of soap. I love the Glock and will still carry it in my MTAC, but for the pocket the 642 smokes it. After dry-firing it I can feel the trigger beginning to smooth out a bit. The first and second 'click' before the hammer strikes are more discernable and controllable. Or maybe I'm just getting used to it. Can't wait to get back to the range. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas....

Sigarms markets a jacket that looks and feels exactly like a Carhart product (may be made by them) in "Carhart brown" or black that has a Velcroed slash opening on both sides of the garment with sewed-in nylon stretch "holsters". They go for under $100.00 (I got mine for around $70.00) and are a great way to tote a concealed snubbie.
