Over the weekend I bought a S&W 642 with the crimson trace laser grips. I like the look and the fact it is light. It may only hold 5 rounds, but that is ok with me. I will be taking my conceal class in a month or so. I cannot wait as I have put this off for a couple of years already. Will have to post pics later.

Take your class with a semi, that way you can carry either. Congrats, I have a 1991 Airweight 642

I carry my S&W 642 alot - it is an easy firearm for CC. You DO want to spend plenty of time practicing with it (even if alot of the practice isn't with +P ammo) because hitting a target with a snubby can be more of a challenge for quite a few people. Anything you decide to carry, you want to be completely comfortable with and know where it will shoot. Also do some practice shooting it weakhand - because you never know..

Great choice! My own preference is a Model 638. Easy to conceal and lightweight enough to carry all day.

In Louisiana I have to shoot a semi and a revolver to be qualified on both. Which I plan to do. But I am going to be carrying the revolver mostly. And yep, will practice with it as I shot a snubby before and realized you must practice with it. I own a snubby S&W K frame. The J frame is a little harder to shoot as accurately, but that just gives me a reason to shoot more for practice! :D .Thanks for the comments and advice so far. Any ideas to a good holster? Looking at IWB right now. And still owe pics!

The 642 may be the most comfortable IWB firearm I have ever purchased. I've owned a lot of little guns that I thought I forgotten I had on my body, but the rounded comfortable shape of the hammerless J frame is the most comfy by far.

I slapped a pair of Clip Grips on it, and stuff it in my waistband at about 3:30. It doesn't dig in or poke or ride up. It doesn't bump into doorknobs as it is pressed in so tightly to my body that my shoulder or hip would have to brush against an object before it did.

It's a good shooter too. Yeah, lots of muzzleblast and a good bit of recoil, but it's not difficult to keep it accurate at combat ranges. I feel that if I am ever in a situation where I need to draw my j frame, the danger is probably going to be right up on me. paper plate at 10 yards rapid fire is good enough for my needs.

Congrats on your new 642CT...

I have owned two different 642-1s and one is the 642CT below.

You will find the laser will help you develop your trigger technique with dry-fire. I pick something on the opposite wall and work at keeping the dot stationary while I pull the trigger through to the shot. Obviously triple check your gun as "clear" before dry-fire practice.

My 638 is the same size and probably weight and actually fits the front pocket of my Levis.

I got a 642-2ct for my wife to carry and we both love it, if she didn't carry it , I would..

I put CT grips on my 642 seven years ago. I carry it every day. Makes an excellent combination.
