I have a Model 65-3 with a 4" barrel. I bought it about 18 months ago. It shoots good and is as accurate as I am. :)
But the gun has seen its better days. The frame has a nice rut from flame cutting. The barrels' forcing cone is partially ate away. The bore shows wear. I suppose it has seen a lot of hot loads.
Would it be reasonable to check into replacing the barrel?
Everything else about the gun, trigger, cylinder lockup, and timing are still very good.
Thanks!

Sorry, I now realize this should have been posted in Gun Smith section.

You can replace the barrel if you can find one, but it needs to be one that’s not a take-off because the –3 version introduced crush thread fitting. I don’t believe S&W has any barrels left, but I would check their customer service department to see what they might be able to do. A custom ‘smith might be able to fit a barrel, but he would likely have to set the shoulder back to get a tight fit. Be aware that once the present barrel is unscrewed it likely won’t be tight when (or if) it’s screwed back without some additional work.

Okay, thanks! I had read when they went to the -3 they got rid of the barrel pin. I'll contact S&W on their web site. If not, I'll probably leave it as is for now.
Again, thank you!

For what it's worth, I emailed S&W from their site. It seems they are overwhelmed by other issues. It may take up to 5 business days for a response. If there is any positive info from them, I'll post it.
