How much should I expect to pay for a S&W 66-2 no-lock 2 1/2in barrel in the box, Ex. condition? I'm not new to guns, but 99% that I own are 1911's. Thanks for any and all input. BTW, they have Hogue grips.

SJ.....
I purchased a 66-2 last year at one of the gun ranges I use. It was in really great condition, about 90% in my book, and I paid $495. Worth every penny...............here's mine with some Ahrends...........

$625+/-25. There is no price deduction for non-original rubber grips because they're better the crude wooden S&W ones on carry gun. I give S&W credit the full size J-frame rubber ones with S&W logo I ordered from them are about the most practical carry grips one could hope for. I wonder if those can be had for a K-frame gun.

There has been a rise in K frame prices, and with the present gun panic the price could be anywhere from $650 to $800. That one has the more desirable forged steel hammer and trigger, no hammer lock and no frame mounted firing pin. To me those are worth more than the new garbage SW is selling.

Nice 66! You've got a good one there buddy.

They are great guns. I had 2 66's both 2 1/2". I bought one new for $275 back in the day and the other was used which I got for cheap. I like them, but not with magnum loads.

If it's a tight gun, that is zero-zero play with no cylinder play, no end shake, no crane shake. And it locks on all chamber BEFORE full cock as well as it's outside appearance being excellent, well I'd pay $550 and maybe up to $600.

My 66-1 and Ruger Security Six. Both zero-zero and strait shooters.

My 66-3 and 686-3. These two are virtually zero-zero but not quite (but excellent guns no less.)

And beside me now, is a S&W 65-5 'Ladysmith', bead blasted, red insert front sight, Rogers grips (but soon will have Secret Service stocks.)

Yea I'm in snubby heaven.

Also, are those galvanized wood screws in the decking? :D

Just kidding. My 66-5 is currently wearing the Hogue bantam grips. Minimal profile, but those Ahrends are giving me ideas. Thanks.
