I think the appropriate title for this press release should have been "S&W Hires Retired Generals to Lobby Pentagon for Contracts."

MAKster, congratulations, you win the Tin Fleece award for seeing through the bureaucratic BS!

Gunnerpalace, it is not only what they have right now, but also whether they can develop something (like an inexpensive 6.8mm conversion package for the M16/M4) that the military needs. They have some good engineers and designers. Of course, S&W is not the only company interested in lucrative government contracts. With Colt effectively out of the picture, Remington, FNH, Beretta, Ruger, and others would like a piece of that big military small arms pie. (Nothing new or unscrupulous; John Browning and Colt jumped through hoops to get the 1911 contract.)

The M&P pistols.

Well, they've been selling them to the police. They are going to have to start selling them to the military or they should change the name ;-)

when was the last time a bunch of old retired O7s and up knew what the enlisted ranks needed!!!

anyways looks like it might be time to purchase some S&W stock its selling at 4$ a share :D

xdgaper nailed it. These are NOT the men they hire to design weapons. These are the men they hire to form business alliances.

Keep this in mind too. Cerebrus (sp?) now owns Chrysler, Bushmaster, Marlin, DPMS, and Remington. I hear FN is vulnerable to purchase, but I have no idea if that's true. They could be in a serious position to make a run for a LOT of military contracts. If Smith (or anyone else) wanted to take them on, they're already behind.
