I posted a little while back about the guy whose crazy aunt left him a bunch of guns. Well….

I went to see the guy and sure enough, the goofy barrel lengths listed on the sheet were not correct. I did however pick up 5 revolvers from him and have a few questions.

I picked up a 16-3 that has rubber grips (didn’t have the stock grips) and a spot on the cylinder where the bluing has been worn (looks like it got scraped on something). Other than that, it’s mint. I’m going to sell it to finance stuff I can use. What kind of reserve price should I put on it?

He also has a K-22 4” but it has a 7 under the serial #. Not a 17 or 18 and not the thin barrel like an Outdoorsman (he had one of those too). What is it and what’s it worth?

On the K-32 (Model 16-3). Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lists them as:

Very Good = $1,350
Exc. = $2,000

The K-22 / 4" is probably a pre-model 18. Look for the serial number on the bottom of the butt, not on the frame behind the yoke. It should have a letter prefix - probably "K". Post the number, but use xx for the last two numerals.

Those are classics. If you sell them now, you will regret it later. They are very useable, fun to shoot, and will keep on going up in value.

I haven't picked up the pre-18 yet but I'm going to next weekend along with an outdoorsman he has. As for the 16-3, the folks on the S&W forum have advised me to have Ford's re-blue the cylinder and put the correct grips on it.

If you have just the cylinder refinished there is a chance it won't match the rest of the gun. You do know it will never bring the big premium price that the very good condition K-32s bring? It will be just a shooter, but still should bring what a NIB K-22 or K-38 should bring.

Yeah, I'm torn on what to do about the cylinder. Ford's says they can match the bluing and the guys at S&W forums are big on them. I don't need a .32 shooter and I got into it cheap enough to offset the issue with the cylinder.

I'm thinking I might just sell it with the cylinder the way it is and let somebody else worry about wether or not to fix it.
